* Job Summary The School of Public Health (SPH) at Augusta University invites applications for Assistant Dean for Undergraduate Programs. The successful candidate will be appointed at the rank of Assistant Professor, Associate Professor, or Professor, in the appropriate SPH department, at a rank commensurate with qualifications, experience, and achievements, with tenure/tenure-track eligibility determined by the candidate's academic background and record of scholarship. Reporting to the Associate Dean for Academic and Student Affairs within the Office of Academic and Student Affairs, the Assistant Dean for Undergraduate Programs will provide strategic leadership and oversight for the School's undergraduate academic programs and contribute to the School's mission through teaching, research, service, program administration, and collaboration with faculty, staff, students, and community partners to promote academic excellence, student success, and continuous program improvement. The anticipated start date for this position is January 1, 2027.
Responsibilities Teaching - 50% Teach undergraduate courses as assigned.
Advise and mentor undergraduate students.
Facilitate student engagement, academic success, and career readiness.
Contribute to curriculum delivery and instructional innovation.
Participate in student recruitment, retention, and progression initiatives.
Collaborate with faculty to ensure high-quality educational experiences for undergraduate students.
Administration - 50% Provide leadership, administration, and oversight for the School of Public Health's undergraduate academic programs.
Lead curriculum planning, implementation, assessment, and continuous improvement efforts.
Oversee undergraduate program operations and course scheduling. Support CEPH accreditation, assessment, reporting, and quality improvement activities.
Collaborate with faculty, staff, students, and university leadership to advance undergraduate education goals and strategic priorities.
Lead initiatives supporting student recruitment, retention, graduation, and career readiness.
Coordinate efforts to enhance the undergraduate student experience and academic outcomes.
Serve as the School's undergraduate academic leader within the Office of Academic and Student Affairs and perform other administrative duties as assigned by the Associate Dean for Academic and Student Affairs.
Required Qualifications Educational Requirements Earned doctoral degree (PhD, DrPH, ScD or equivalent) in public health or a public health discipline.
Other Required Qualifications Demonstrated leadership, organizational, and communication skills. Commitment to student success and academic excellence. Ability to collaborate effectively with faculty, staff, students, and external stakeholders.
Required Experience At least 2 years¿ experience teaching undergraduate coursework in public health or a public health discipline.
- Assistant Professor - Early level career as a faculty member with appropriate post graduate training.
- Associate Professor - Mid level career faculty member with at least five years at rank of Assistant Professor or comparable training, background, and experience.
- Professor - Senior level career faculty member with at least five years at the rank of Associate Professor or comparable training, background, and experience.
Required faculty employment qualifications for all USG institutions and all academic ranks within these institutions shall be:
- Consistent with the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools Commission on Colleges (SACSCOC)'s requirements for institutional accreditation;
- Evidence of ability as a teacher;
- Evidence of activity as a scholar and ability in all other duties assigned;
- Successful experience (which will necessarily be waived for those just entering the academic profession who meet all other requirements); and,
- Desirable personal qualities judged on the basis of personal interview, complete biographical data, and recommendations.
Preferred Qualifications Additional Preferred Qualifications Experience developing community and public health partnerships. Administrative or supervisory experience in higher education. Record of scholarship, public health practice, or service appropriate to rank.
Preferred Educational Qualifications Degree from a CEPH - accredited school or program of public health. Academic credentials consistent with appointment at the Assistant Professor, Associate Professor, or Professor rank.
Preferred Experience Experience directing or coordinating an undergraduate academic program. Experience with curriculum development, assessment, and continuous improvement. Knowledge of CEPH accreditation standards. Experience supporting student recruitment, retention, and career readiness.
Shift/Salary/Benefits This position is fiscal year based and works year-round.
The intended work commitment or full-time equivalent (FTE) for this position is 1.0 and considered full-time.
