Full Job Description
McKesson is seeking a strategic and operational leader to oversee transportation operations supporting the movement of temperature-sensitive plasma and biologic products. This role is responsible for transportation network design, route optimization, dedicated fleet operations, carrier management, transportation billing, capacity planning, and regulatory compliance across a highly regulated cold chain environment.
As the leader of the Plasma Transportation function, you will drive transportation strategy, operational performance, service excellence, cost optimization, and compliance while leading multidisciplinary teams and partnering with customers, carriers, quality, operations, finance, and commercial stakeholders.
What You'll Do
• Lead transportation operations supporting domestic and international movement of plasma and biologic products.
• Direct route planning, transportation network design, fleet utilization, and carrier capacity management.
• Oversee carrier relationships, transportation contracts, performance scorecards, and vendor governance.
• Ensure transportation activities meet service, cost, quality, and regulatory requirements.
• Develop transportation forecasts for volume, mileage, carrier capacity, fleet requirements, and budgets.
• Drive transportation billing accuracy, carrier invoice validation, dispute resolution, and revenue protection initiatives.
• Support customer growth initiatives, facility expansions, and transportation-related business development opportunities.
• Lead transportation responses for customer RFPs, including pricing strategy, cost modeling, and feasibility analysis.
• Partner with Quality and Operations teams to maintain compliance with cold-chain requirements, chain-of-custody processes, and transportation regulations.
• Develop and implement transportation performance metrics, KPIs, operational standards, and continuous improvement initiatives.
• Lead and develop managers and professional staff across transportation planning, carrier management, transportation billing, forecasting, and customer support functions.
• Present transportation performance, cost improvement opportunities, and strategic recommendations to executive leadership and customers.
Basic Requirements
• Bachelor's degree in Supply Chain, Logistics, Business, Transportation, or related field, or equivalent experience.
• 12+ years of transportation, logistics, supply chain, or distribution experience.
• 4+ years of people leadership experience managing managers and/or professional teams.
• Experience leading transportation operations, routing, logistics networks, or fleet management functions.
• Experience managing third-party transportation providers, carrier partnerships, and service performance.
• Experience with transportation cost management, freight spend analysis, budgeting, and forecasting.
• Experience using Transportation Management Systems (TMS) and transportation analytics tools.
• Demonstrated experience in transportation network design, route optimization, and capacity planning.
• Ability to analyze operational data and drive measurable service and cost improvements.
Preferred Skills/Experience
• Plasma, biologics, healthcare, pharmaceutical, life sciences, or cold chain logistics experience.
• Experience managing temperature-controlled transportation networks.
• Knowledge of DOT, FMCSA, FDA, cGMP, IATA, and international transportation regulations.
• Experience supporting transportation pricing strategies, client proposals, and RFP responses.
• Executive-level customer relationship management experience.
• Experience leading transportation operations within a 24/7 multi-site environment.
• Experience with telemetry, GPS tracking, route optimization software, Power BI, SAP, or similar platforms.
• Lean, Six Sigma, or continuous improvement certification.
• Experience supporting biologic product chain-of-custody requirements.
Travel / Work Environment / Physical Requirements
• Remote or hybrid work arrangement.
• Travel required approximately 25% to 35%.
• Travel may include distribution centers, plasma collection centers, customer locations, and carrier partner facilities.
• Must be available to support transportation operations and escalation management outside standard business hours when necessary.
• Ability to work in a fast-paced environment supporting a 24/7 transportation network.

$109,100 - $181,800
