POSITION DESCRIPTION

Director of Training

Department: Training Reports To: Chief Operating Officer FLSA: Exempt

POSITION OVERVIEW

The Director of Training is a seasoned multifamily operator who has made the deliberate choice to invest their experience in developing the next generation of Chamberlin + Associates talent. This person already knows what great looks like at the property and regional level. They have built teams, coached under performers, identified high-potential employees, and tied development directly to operational outcomes. In this role they bring that experience to bear across the full organization, designing the training architecture, building out the People on the Move high-potential program, and partnering with operations to ensure every Chamberlin employee has a clear and supported path to becoming better at their job. They lead a trainer who handles the majority of delivery, own the learning management platform, and serve as the organizational authority on what good development looks like at Chamberlin.

SCOPE OF RESPONSIBILITY
  • Full ownership of the Chamberlin training program across all functions, levels, and markets including site-level, regional, maintenance, and corporate.
  • Leadership and development of the internal trainers, with shared responsibility for curriculum development and training delivery.
  • Administration and ownership of the People on the Move, Chamberlin's high-potential internal training program, including framework design, development pathway creation, and coaching coordination.
  • Curriculum development for in-person, virtual, and Gracehill-based training content across all roles and disciplines in partnership with operations and the trainer direct report.
  • Administration and tracking of all training activity within Gracehill and related platforms.
  • Partnership with regional and corporate leadership to ensure training content reflects operational reality and is consistently reinforced in the field.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

Training Program Design & Architecture
  • Design and oversee a blended learning architecture that integrates online, virtual, and in-person delivery across all roles and levels of the organization.
  • Develop role-specific learning journeys for all positions in the organization, from leasing consultant to regional vice president, that map training milestones to performance expectations at each stage of tenure.
  • Integrate Gracehill's online catalog as a core component of the program, curating content that is relevant, current, and mapped to specific role competencies and compliance requirements.
  • Partner with regional and property leadership to develop training content that reflects how Chamberlin properties actually operate, ensuring every program is grounded in operational reality.
  • Continuously evaluate program effectiveness through performance data and field feedback, iterating on content and delivery based on what is producing real behavior change.

People on the Move Program
  • Own and formalize the People on the Move high-potential program across the full Chamberlin portfolio, building and maintaining an active, current list of high-potential employees identified across all site-level positions.
  • Design and establish the development pathway framework that defines what growth looks like for each high-potential employee, including the skills, experiences, and milestones required for advancement, replacing the informal, case-by-case approach used today.
  • Coordinate with regional and property leadership to ensure high-potential employees are receiving consistent coaching, stretch assignments, and development opportunities aligned with their pathway.
  • Partner with the Talent Manager and operations leadership to align the People on the Move pipeline with active and anticipated open positions across the portfolio.
  • Track and report on program outcomes including internal promotion rates, retention of high-potential employees, and advancement timelines.

Curriculum Development & Content
  • Develop, write, and maintain original training content for in-person, virtual, and self-directed formats across all functions and levels of the organization in partnership with the trainer direct report.
  • Build training materials that reflect the operational reality of multifamily property management, providing practical and specific instruction tied to how Chamberlin properties are run.
  • Partner with subject matter experts across operations, maintenance, finance, and leadership to ensure content accuracy and relevance.
  • Maintain a current library of training resources that site teams, regional leaders, and corporate staff can access on demand.
  • Ensure all training content remains compliant with fair housing regulations, applicable employment law, and Chamberlin operational standards.

Trainer Leadership & Delivery
  • Directly manage and develop the internal trainer, setting clear performance expectations and building a delivery capability that is consistent, high-quality, and operationally grounded.
  • Share facilitation responsibility with the trainer, personally leading high-stakes sessions, leadership development programs, and senior-level onboarding where operational credibility matters most.
  • Establish a quality assurance process for training delivery, including observation, feedback, and continuous improvement cycles.
  • Model the coaching approach, facilitation standards, and professionalism expected in every training interaction across the organization.

Training Administration & Tracking
  • Administer and maintain the Gracehill platform as the system of record for all formal training activity across the organization.
  • Ensure all required training including onboarding, compliance, role-specific, and leadership development is assigned, tracked, and completed within defined timelines.
  • Build reporting cadences that give leadership visibility into training completion, compliance status, and program participation across every level of the organization.

Organizational Partnership
  • Work closely with the COO, VP of Operations, and regional leadership to align training priorities with current and anticipated operational needs.
  • Partner with the Talent Manager and operations leadership to ensure onboarding programs effectively transition new hires from orientation to productive contribution as quickly as possible.
  • Identify performance patterns across the portfolio that indicate systemic training gaps and develop targeted interventions in partnership with regional and property leadership.
  • Represent the training function in leadership meetings, contributing development insight and performance observations to operational and strategic conversations.

QUALIFICATIONS

Required
  • 5+ years of multifamily property management experience with demonstrated success as a Regional Property Manager or equivalent, including direct accountability for team development and performance outcomes across a multi-property portfolio.
  • Proven track record of developing site-level talent, coaching underperformers, and identifying high-potential employees for advancement.
  • Strong operational fluency across leasing, maintenance, compliance, financial performance, and people management in a multifamily environment.
  • Demonstrated ability to assess performance gaps, identify root causes, and develop practical interventions that produce measurable improvement.
  • Outstanding communication and facilitation skills with the ability to engage diverse audiences across all levels of the organization.
  • Willingness and demonstrated ability to actively develop training and instructional design skills beyond operational experience.

Preferred
  • Experience designing or contributing to formal training programs, onboarding curricula, or structured development pathways in a multifamily or property management environment.
  • Familiarity with Gracehill or comparable learning management systems used in the multifamily industry.
  • Experience managing high-potential talent programs or succession planning processes.
  • Instructional design exposure or coursework in adult learning methodology.
