Full Job Description

This position leads and develops a high-performing large site engineering organization encompassing project engineering, process engineering, plant engineering, maintenance, and automation functions. It collaborates closely with engineering teams across BL-HC and the broader Evonik network to support operations at the Tippecanoe sites. Ensure the engineering organization delivers the technical capabilities, innovation, and operational excellence required to execute business strategy, enhance competitive advantage, drive cost-effective responsiveness, and strengthen market differentiation.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

Engineering & Maintenance

  • Lead project engineering, process engineering, plant engineering, maintenance, and automation functions to ensure safe, reliable, and compliant operations.

  • Provide engineering support for process development, scale-up activities, troubleshooting, operational improvement, and new project implementation.

  • Develop and execute site capital investment and maintenance strategies aligned with business objectives and cGMP standards.

  • Oversee capital project delivery, equipment reliability, plant operability, maintenance programs, and cost-effective project execution.

  • Manage engineering budgets, expense reporting, and KPI-driven operational performance.

  • Build and develop high-performing engineering teams while fostering collaboration across site, regional, and corporate functions.

Quality & cGMP Responsibilities

  • Ensure compliance with cGMP requirements and maintain product SISPQ standards (Safety, Identity, Strength, Purity, and Quality).

  • Promote strong quality systems through adherence to procedures, accurate documentation, training compliance, and timely deviation reporting.

  • Support safe and compliant operations through proper housekeeping, sanitation, PPE usage, and proactive risk reporting.

Environmental, Safety, Health & Security (ESHS)

  • Champion EHS programs, policies, and safe work practices across all engineering and maintenance operations.

  • Ensure employees complete required training, utilize appropriate tools and PPE, and maintain accountability for safe behaviors.

  • Identify, report, and address workplace hazards, incidents, and safety concerns in a timely manner.

  • Foster a proactive safety culture through employee engagement, coaching, and participation in EHS management systems.

Strategic Focus

  • Drive long-term asset strategies that deliver best-in-class safety, reliability, operational excellence, and cGMP performance.

  • Improve productivity, asset effectiveness, and support successful implementation of new customer and growth projects.

  • Enhance cost efficiency and execution effectiveness of capital projects and engineering initiatives.

  • Develop and strengthen engineering capabilities and resources to support ongoing business growth at Tippecanoe and across the region.

REQUIREMENTS:

  • Bachelor's Degree or higher in engineering, chemical engineering preferred.

  • Requires a broad knowledge of plant design, production technologies, project management policies and practices gained in multiple significant appointments over a minimum of 15 years. Must include expertise in cGMP requirements and Process Safety for high-hazard facilities.

  • Demonstrated professional leadership and managerial responsibility, including leadership of other professional staff and a track record of consistently successful achievement of safety, cost and time-sensitive objectives.

  • Skills in leading other engineers who are themselves capable of successfully leading through challenges and guiding opportunities, and improvement.

  • MBA or other evidence of an ability to understand, act on and influence Product Line business strategy is required.

  • Strong functional credibility and evidence of having maintained a current knowledge of a broad range of engineering technology.

  • Experience in different technologies is highly desirable.

  • Six Sigma problem resolution experience is advantageous.

  • Demonstrated ability to work in teams and be effective in influencing across functions.
