Reports To

General Counsel (GC)

Position Summary

The Director of Risk Management reports to the GC and is responsible for effectively managing the Risk Department, including litigation support, risk management, insurance administration, and risk function leadership.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities
  • Manage, lead, train, mentor, and develop Risk & Litigation Team members while ensuring balanced workloads and effective performance.
  • Identify, implement, and continuously improve legal and risk management processes and resolve internal and external issues.


Claims & Litigation Management
  • Case management of all general liability, EEOC, DOJ, ADA, property, auto, cyber, and third-party matters, including litigation, discovery responses, arbitrations, mediations, and settlement negotiations, throughout the life of each claim.
  • Manage legal holds, investigations, discovery, subpoenas, settlement strategy, reserve analysis, and outside counsel.
  • Coordinate with Human Resources, outside counsel, and internal stakeholders to obtain investigations, documentation, and timely court and agency responses.
  • Partner with HR, IT, Accounting, insurance carriers, and outside counsel to identify witnesses, preserve evidence, maintain document control, and support discovery.
  • Negotiate settlements with insurance adjusters and legal counsel to resolve claims efficiently, cost-effectively to achieve favorable outcomes.
  • Collaborate with HR regarding high-value Workers' Compensation claims.


Enterprise Risk & Insurance
  • Lead enterprise risk management strategy and claims analytics.
  • Oversee and administer insurance programs including GL, EPLI, D&O, Property, Workers' Compensation, Cyber, Professional Liability, Terrorism, and Auto, along with managing broker/carrier relationships.
  • Manage and provide specific data and documentation for annual insurance renewals for GL, EPLI, D&O, Property, Worker's Compensation, Cyber, Professional Liability, Terrorism, and Auto coverages.
  • Partner with internal Construction team to obtain asset documentation supporting insurance coverage for new and remodeled locations.
  • Coordinate compilation of documentation required for annual Workers' Compensation and General Liability insurance audits along with required EEOC Reporting to insurance representatives.


  • Participate in quarterly claim reviews for General Liability and Workers' Compensation claims.
  • Direct Certificate of Insurance (COI) and Bond programs and oversee responses to COI and bond requests.
  • Provide litigation and claims information to company auditors on a quarterly basis.

  • Recruit, mentor, and develop high-performing legal and risk professionals.
  • Model organizational values and promote a culture of integrity, accountability, and compliance.
  • Promote operational excellence, accountability, collaboration, and continuous improvement.


Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree required.
  • Paralegal degree/certificate required.
  • 15+ years of progressive leadership in legal, compliance, litigation, insurance, enterprise risk, and management.
  • Executive experience supporting multi-state, multi-unit organizations.


This position is fully on-site at our Addison, TX office.
