Travel: As neededJob ID: 1692

The Role:

We are looking for a Director of Product Management - Next-Generation Systems to join our Product team at IonQ. In this role, you will be responsible for building critical pieces of our quantum computing portfolio, including ensuring customers are able to take advantage of the newest IonQ hardware generations as early as possible. You will partner with engineering program leads on system design tradeoffs and with research leads on experimental goals and capabilities, to define what "ready" means for a specific quantum system and target customer are necessary for success.

You9ll play a key role in contributing to the team9s mission of leading IonQ on its journey to build the world9s best quantum computers to solve the world9s most complex problems.

Responsibilities:

In this position, you will work on two related value streams;
  • Our Next-Generation Systems, which allow IonQ customers to access our newest generations of systems quickly, via coordinated capability launch across platforms and surfaces.
  • Our Experimental Capabilities, the feature set that lets external researchers and internal application scientists push the state of the art, explore novel capabilities, and publish genuinely novel breakthroughs on IonQ systems.

You will work with customers, external partners, and internal collaborators to take ideas from concept to launch, including creating a vision, identifying requirements, and crafting the product roadmap.

Key responsibilities include:
  • Understanding IonQ9s market and communicating a strong point of view about our customers, in particular frontier research groups and future customers who believe upcoming generations will unlock needed capability.
  • Immersing yourself in IonQ9s hardware roadmap, system software, experimental capabilities, and R&D pipeline, through relationships with engineering program leads working on each generation of system.
  • Building strong relationships with engineering to ensure advancements in capability are aligned to business and customer outcomes, driving milestone alignment and clarity across in-flight hardware generation so new capabilities are coordinated events.
  • Leading cross-functional efforts to land each new hardware generation across relevant surfaces (Cloud, Hub, On-Prem, partners), and to ship and refresh an Experimental Capabilities surface that gives external researchers the tools for exploring the cutting edge.
  • Defining product value proposition, positioning, and go-to-market strategy, and contributing to its realization across Sales, Product Marketing, Customer Success, and more.
  • Working closely with customer success, applications research, internal data, frontier lab partners, and our own scientists to understand the success, health, and quality of products in development and in-market.

Requirements:

To be successful, you will need strong experience in technical product management or equivalent roles, with exposure to hardware-software co-development or scientific instrumentation. We9re looking for someone who has worked on products that require building a new market for a technology and/or commercializing a technology for the first time.

You9d be a great fit with:
  • Knowledge of or interaction with Quantum Computing, Quantum Information Science, and/or AMO Physics is essential in order to credibly partner with program leads and researchers.
  • World-class written and verbal communication skills, with a demonstrated ability to articulate complex topics to technical and non-technical audiences.
  • A demonstrated ability to act as a self-starting leader in ambiguous and challenging environments, driving impact through persistence and adaptability.
  • Passion for working with emerging technologies and at the boundary between research and productized delivery.
  • Bachelor9s degree in Physics, Computer Science, Applied Mathematics, Electrical Engineering, a related engineering field, or equivalent real-world experience.

Preferred Qualifications:

It would also be beneficial to have experience taking research-grade technologies into productized customer-facing offerings, such as working in Scientific Computing or High Performance Computing. Participation in the quantum computing research community would also be useful, such as publications in QIS, AMO or related fields. An advanced degree (MS/PhD) in Physics, Quantum Information Science, Chemistry, Applied Mathematics, or related engineering field, could also be helpful.
The approximate base salary range for this position is $200,698 - $262,765. The total compensation package includes base, bonus, equity, and a range of benefit options found on our career site.

Compensation will vary based on individual factors such as education, qualifications, and experience of the final candidate(s), specific office location, and calibration against relevant market data and internal team equity. Posted base salary figures are subject to change as new market data becomes available. Our benefits include comprehensive medical, dental, and vision plans, matching 401K, unlimited PTO and paid holidays, parental/adoption leave, legal insurance, and a home technology stipend. Details of participation in these benefit plans will be provided when a candidate receives an offer of employment.
