APPLICANTS MUST BE PERMANENT IN THE ADMINISTRATIVE PRINTING SERVICES MANAGER CIVIL SERVICE TITLE OR BE PERMANENT IN A COMPARABLE TITLE ELIGIBLE FOR 6.1.9 TITLE CHANGE. IF YOU ARE HIRED PROVISIONALLY IN THIS TITLE, YOU MUST TAKE AND PASS THE CIVIL SERVICE EXAM WHEN IT BECOMES AVAILABLE, TO BE ELIGIBLE FOR CONTINUED EMPLOYMENT.

The Department of Social Services (DSS) is comprised of the administrative units of the New York City Human Resources Administration (HRA) and the Department of Homeless Services (DHS). HRA is dedicated to fighting poverty and income inequality by providing New Yorkers in need with essential benefits such as Food Assistance and Emergency Rental Assistance. DHS is committed to preventing and addressing homelessness in New York City by employing a variety of innovative strategies to help families and individuals successfully exit shelter and return to self-sufficiency as quickly as possible.

HRA/General Support Services (GSS) provides safe, healthy, and appropriate facilities for HRA's various social service programs. Its many functions include facilities planning and coordination, design and construction, renovation, repair and maintenance, custodial and other building services, health/safety program coordination, lease and property management, land use and environmental review activities, contract administration for facilities services, and warehouse operations. GSS plays a major role in HRA emergency preparedness.

The Bureau of Printing and Distribution Services consists of the Print and Mail Distribution units that provides production and mail processing, high resolution digital printing, copying, collating, binding, packing, and distribution of such materials as letter, forms, brochures, procedures, manuals, newsletters, pamphlets, flyers, directories, and other publications.

General Support Services/ Bureau of Printing and Distribution Services is recruiting for one (1) Administrative Printing Services Manager M-I to function as Director of Bureau of Printing & Distribution Services who will:

-Direct print operators and finishing staff to set production schedules, establish priorities and work schedules to optimize productivity.

-Review incoming print jobs for accuracy, completeness and compliance with required printing specifications.

-Evaluate source material and determine if quality is sufficient for original will permit reproductions, estimate required resources, assess feasibility of customer deadlines and communicate adjustments or status as needed.

-Assign jobs to specific printing shop sections and meet daily with section supervisors. Inspect printed output for quality before releasing to finishing or shipping. Coordinate production activities with finishing and shipping units.

-Prepare reports and performance analysis for the Printing Services unit. Manage inventory of paper, toner, ink and other supplies. Ensure all equipment, service and supply contracts remain current.

-Research and recommend cost-effective printing and finishing equipment, supplies, service and contracts to management prior to procurement.

-Work with service and supply vendors to request maintenance, repairs, and deliveries, set priorities for vendor work. Monitor vendor performance and take corrective action when service level agreements are not met.

Hours/Shift: 9AM - 5PM

ADMINISTRATIVE PRINTING SERVIC - 10096

1. Five years of full-time technical printing experience in a large print shop encompassing a wide variety of operations including off-set and letter press experience, hot and cold type methods (linotype, varitype, make-up), binding, etc., including 18 months in a supervisory capacity over workers performing a wide variety of printing press or bindery operations; or
2. Education and/or experience equivalent to "1" above. However, all candidates must possess the 18 months of supervisory experience as described in "1" above.
