The ideal candidate is both a creative leader and a skilled operational mind: someone who has successfully developed and launched multiple shows out of newsrooms, understands the podcast landscape, and can recognize distinctive editorial voices and talent that translate into compelling audio and video shows.

In this role, you will work across New York Magazine's portfolio, including Vulture, the Cut, and its four additional verticals, to identify talent, concepts, and audience opportunities that can become signature New York franchises.
Responsibilities
  • Develop and execute a long-term multiplatform podcast strategy for New York Magazine, identifying the largest audience, editorial, and business opportunities across the magazine's brands, coverage areas, and talent roster.
  • Conceive, develop, and launch new podcast concepts from idea through pilot, testing, and release, including the creation of multiple pilots and proof-of-concept projects in the first year.
    • Develop franchises with cross-platform potential from the outset, identifying opportunities to translate concepts across audio, video, social, and live.
    • Identify, cultivate, and coach editorial talent across New York Magazine and its key coverage areas, partnering with editorial leadership to uncover distinctive voices, expertise, and opportunities.
  • Oversee all aspects of show development, including editorial direction, host development, production workflows, and programming.
  • Build a long-term roadmap for a portfolio of multiplatform shows that support audience growth, engagement, and revenue objectives.
  • Identify and evaluate the potential to acquire or partner with existing external podcasts, creators, and talent when there is an opportunity to strengthen coverage areas aligned to the magazine's audio and video strategy.
  • Recruit and manage external creative partners, producers, and talent as needed.
  • Lead broader cross-functional stakeholder management and execution, e.g., collaborating with audience team to develop multiplatform growth strategies and partnering with ad sales and subscription teams to build out franchise business opportunity
Qualifications
  • 10+ years of experience developing, launching, and growing original audiovisual programs, podcasts, or audiovisual franchises.
  • Demonstrated track record of taking shows from concept to launch and audience growth.
  • Strong editorial instincts and experience translating culture, politics, business, lifestyle, or entertainment coverage into compelling audio and video formats.
  • Experience identifying, developing, and coaching on-air talent.
  • Experience cultivating, managing, and collaborating with top-tier talent, creators, and celebrities
  • Strong understanding of video podcasting, creator-led media, and cross-platform content strategies.
  • Deep knowledge of the podcast industry, audience behavior, distribution platforms, and emerging media trends.
  • Excellent project management, communication, and cross-functional leadership skills, including experience working closely with audience and revenue teams.
  • Ability to operate strategically while also executing hands-on development work.
