Director of Operations, Kean Jersey City
Under the direction of the Assistant Vice President for the Kean University Department of Public Safety and Police, the Director of Operations (Director 3) provides leadership and operational oversight for the Department of Public Safety at Kean’s Jersey City location. The Director is responsible for ensuring a safe, secure and welcoming environment for students, faculty, staff and visitors.
The Director of Operations leads and supervises Public Safety personnel and oversees the day-to-day delivery of campus safety and security services. The Director is responsible for developing, implementing and evaluating comprehensive safety programs, emergency response protocols, training initiatives and operational standards consistent with university policies, best practices and applicable federal, state and local laws and regulations. The Director works collaboratively with leadership, campus departments, law enforcement and emergency response agencies and other stakeholders to identify risks, strengthen emergency preparedness, enhance operational effectiveness and promote a culture of safety, professionalism, accountability and service. This position requires travel and a flexible schedule including evening and weekend hours.
This employee is expected to work on site at the Kean Jersey City location. This position is considered essential and the Director must have the ability to work all shifts (including nights and weekends) as necessary and be on-call/respond to campus for emergency situations when appropriate.
Qualifications: Graduation from an accredited college with a Bachelor’s degree and three years of progressive professional experience in law enforcement, public safety or security with at least two or more years in a significant command or supervisory position is required. Equivalent education and experience may be considered as determined by the appointing authority. A valid driver's license is also required to perform essential duties of this position. Applicants who do not possess the required education may substitute experience on a year-for-year basis (30 credit hours are considered one year of college).
Outstanding interpersonal skills and excellent written and oral communication skills are essential. Applicants must have a broad understanding of environmental health and safety, fire safety and workplace safety, with demonstrated ability to respond effectively to crisis situations; experience in risk management, continuity planning, security, emergency management or a related area; knowledge of fire safety and environmental health regulations; and knowledge of FEMA, Clery Act and security/law enforcement operations requirements sufficient to administer security and emergency management responsibilities.

In compliance with New Jersey’s Pay Transparency Law, the annual salary range for this position is: $100,000 to $120,000. Additional InformationEmployment at Kean requires working at any of our New Jersey campus locations or affiliated work sites, which may include, but not be limited to: the main campus in Union; Kean Ocean in Toms River; Kean Skylands in Jefferson Township; Kean Jersey City; Kean at Brookdale in Middletown Township; Manahawkin; Princeton; and Trenton. Location assignments will be based on operational and university needs. Faculty may also be assigned to teach online classes for Kean Global.
