Director of Nursing - Surgical Services (OR)
Location: Westwood, NJ
Work Model: Onsite (Day Shift)
Position Type: Full-Time
The Director of Nursing - Surgical Services is responsible for providing 24/7 clinical, operational, and financial leadership across the perioperative platform, including OR, PACU, same-day surgery, sterile processing, endoscopy, and pre-op clinic. This is a high-impact leadership role focused on driving surgical growth, optimizing OR utilization, improving patient outcomes, and building high-performing teams in a fast-evolving hospital environment.
Key Responsibilities
  • Provide 24/7 leadership oversight for surgical services departments
  • Lead and optimize OR throughput, block utilization, and case volume growth
  • Oversee perioperative services including:
    • Operating Room (OR)
    • PACU
    • Same Day Surgery
    • Sterile Processing
    • Endoscopy
    • Pre-op clinic
  • Drive quality patient care and clinical excellence aligned with standards
  • Manage staffing, scheduling, and workforce optimization (reduce travel staff dependency)
  • Lead performance improvement initiatives and KPI-driven operations
  • Collaborate with physicians to improve scheduling, access, and operational efficiency
  • Standardize processes such as preference cards and workflow optimization
  • Oversee budget, financial performance, and cost control
  • Ensure compliance with regulatory, accreditation, and safety standards
  • Mentor and develop leadership teams and frontline staff
  • Support hospital growth strategy through expanded surgical capacity and services
Must-Have Requirements
  • BSN (required) (or active enrollment with completion within 24 months)
  • Active RN License - New Jersey
  • 2-5+ years of nursing leadership experience (acute care / surgical services)
  • Strong experience in perioperative / OR leadership
  • Experience managing clinical operations, staffing, and budgets
  • BLS certification (within 14 days of hire)
