Job Summary and Qualifications

In conjunction with the Chief Nursing Officer and Assistant CNO provides leadership to the cost centers within the Department of Nursing. The specific area of leadership focus for the ADCO is the operational component of the departments to include project management, process improvement, productivity, and resource acquisition and management of all types. This role encompasses management of human, fiscal and other resources, development of personnel, compliance with regulatory and professional standards, strategic planning and fostering of collaborative relationships.

  • You will participate in providing patient specific care standards as directed, and follows service excellence standards to ensure high levels of patient satisfaction.
  • You will ensure compliance with all regulatory bodies to include but not limited to Joint Commission, CMS, and all state and federal agencies.
  • You will support the nursing department in the acquisition, analysis, presentation, and synthesis of data for disease specific accreditation.
  • You will lead, facilitate, and participate as directed in all process improvement, quality, safety, patient care, and corporate initiatives.
  • You will serve as systems liaison and administrator for department of nursing as directed (Scheduling Excellence, PLUS, clinical dashboards, etc.).
  • You will utilize innovative thinking and systems knowledge to collect, analyze, and present data that facilitates data- driven decision making.
  • You will support the nursing vision, philosophy, and mission through professional behavior, communication, and presence.
  • You will participate as resource in the identification, justification, and acquisition of resources (personnel, supplies, equipment, and knowledge) for the department of nursing.
  • You will serve as a leader and role model in establishing and maintaining a patient care-centered culture and a culture reflective of employee engagement.
  • You will actively participate as a leader in building partnerships with staff, customers and physicians through communication, follow through, and the availability of data. Participate in service line development and capital projects as directed.
  • You will support clinical practice and operational efficiency through leadership, systems utilization, and team participation.
  • You will participate as member of the nursing leadership team in strategic planning and capital budgeting as directed.
  • You will formulate and distribute team communication regarding clinical and operational performance as directed.
  • You will serve as an educational and mentoring resource and in enhancing the team's systems skill set and supporting the defined leadership development plan for organization.
  • You will actively participate in policy and process generation and revision.
  • You will support the organizational commitment to life-long learning through networking, literature review, participating in professional organizations and division/corporate workgroups, and attending workshops and conferences.
  • You will serve as an organizational liaison to external customers as directed. Comply with Employee Health and Injury policy/protocol. Comply with all emergency codes, disaster protocols, infection control protocols, and safety protocols. Ensure staff attends required/mandatory in-services and that staff receives continuing education to remain current in their field.
  • You will demonstrate knowledge and skills necessary to provide care to patients and families served in relation to growth and development over the life span to identify their requirements relative to age-specific needs.
  • You will actively support, implement, and monitor national patient safety goals and standards.

What qualifications you will need:

  • Graduate from an accredited Bachelor's Degree nursing program or current enrollment in an Alternative Entry MSN program; minimum of five years management position experience
  • Preferred: Master's Degree
  • Currently licensed as a registered professional nurse in the state(s) of practice and/or has an active compact license, in accordance with law and regulation. FT/PT/PRN colleagues with a compact license from a state other than Texas must: • apply for Texas RN license within 60 days from hire • obtain current TX RN license within 6 months of application for TX RN license
  • BCLS certification as per SDH policy
  • Preferred: ACLS certification as per SDH policy


St. David's Surgical Hospital, part of St. David's North Austin Medical Center, is a specialty hospital focused on surgery. It provides expert care in orthopedic, gynecological, urological, breast, and reconstructive surgery, among other types. Located in North Austin, the hospital has 45+ large inpatient rooms, 10 operating room suites, and an inpatient rehabilitation unit with a therapy gym and 20 private rehab rooms. It also includes an ADL/occupational therapy suite (for helping patients with daily living skills), as well as imaging, pharmacy, lab services, and dedicated teams for nursing, therapy, and leadership.
