Full Job Description
Position Summary: The Director of Nursing under the direction of the Administrator and Medical Director has 24-hour responsibility for nursing care of all residents through supervision, coordination, and participation in the daily operations. Responsible for adherence to policies and procedures, nursing process guidelines, standards of care and practice and all State and Federal Guidelines for Skilled Nursing Facilities.

Essential Functions and Responsibilities:

  1. Direct Resident Care: Is ultimately responsible for the assessment of resident's needs (MDS) and development of resident's plan of care with goals to ensure the residents are able to receive optimal care and services.
  2. Supervision: Regularly evaluates the progress toward these goals by resident rounds, observation of staff and change of shift reports.
  3. Regulatory requirements: Is responsible to audit charts regularly to ensure pertinent and accurate documentation has been completed including Medication Administration Records (MARS), treatment sheets, Flow sheets, and incident reports.
  4. Staffing and Training: Is responsible for hiring, training, counseling and evaluation of nursing personnel, creation of nursing schedules according to budgeted hours and State Minimum Staffing Patterns.
  5. Organization Duties: Is responsible for the disposal of narcotics according to policy, education to all staff according to policy, incident reporting process, restorative nursing program, performance improvement and infection control program.
  6. Performs other related duties as required and directed.
