Overview

The Director of Digital Marketing is a strategic and tactical leader in planning and executing digital marketing programs for the Nelson Books team that facilitate sales of our titles across a variety of digital platforms. This position will play a pivotal role in the development and execution of integrated digital marketing campaigns serving frontlist title marketers and authors as well as leaning in on the Nelson Books backlist program. This candidate is a marketing innovator who inspires trust and confidence in internal and external stakeholders, and capable of handling multiple projects all at different stages in the marketing cycle with confidence and passion.

Our ideal candidate is a seasoned digital marketing leader familiar with the ever-changing digital marketing landscape. The candidate is a strategic and tactical leader in planning and managing digital marketing activities for frontlist and select backlist titles to meet sales goals. This position will help to lead the strategic development of our digital marketing landscape and develop online advertising, consumer targeting, consumer messaging, SEO & keyword strategy, seasonal marketing campaigns, and social media strategy. This position will also be accountable for the ROI analysis and reporting of results for each campaign. The Digital Marketing Director will work with the other marketing team members in a coordinated approach to bring awareness to and engagement with our titles and authors.

Our preference is to fill this position in Nashville, TN but we are also open to qualified candidates that are located outside of the area. Travel may be required based on the need of the business.

Responsibilities
  • In consultation with the title marketers and other digital marketing directors, support the execution of digital marketing activity for the Nelson Books team across all channels including support for online advertising activities, promotional emails, direct to consumer initiatives, and social media outreach to target audiences.
  • Manage creation of digital marketing assets (online ads, emails, web pages, graphics, video ads, etc.) for internal and external email lists, blogs, affiliates, paid search, and social media marketing.
  • Work with cross-functional partners including publishing, sales, research/consumer insights, supply chain, production, finance, and others to deliver winning consumer and customer plans via strong digital marketing strategy.
  • Identify online media outlets, execute media buy, set up target audiences, budgets, and bids. This position will be responsible for running campaigns on Amazon, Facebook/Instagram, Google, YouTube, TikTok, Spotify, etc.
  • Monitor and track progress of digital ad campaigns on Amazon, Google, YouTube, TikTok, Meta, and other platforms and make real-time optimization to ensure ROI for each campaign.
  • Oversee management of metadata projects (SEO & keyword strategy) with editorial and marketing operations.
  • Develop and execute eBook and audiobook promotional strategy in collaboration with Digital Sales team.
  • Develop and execute multi-title programmatic digital marketing campaigns especially for seasonal opportunities.
  • Measure success, trends, and ROI of marketing initiatives.
  • Participate in sales conference, executive team, and potential external partner presentations.
  • Proactively, participate in weekly marketing meetings.
  • Manage fiscal year digital marketing budget for assigned projects.
  • Other related responsibilities, as required.
Qualifications

Work Experience/Knowledge:

  • 7-8 years in a marketing or related field role
  • Well-versed in digital marketing campaigns

Education: Bachelors in marketing, Digital Marketing, or related field preferred

Industry Knowledge:

Required: Knowledgeable in digital marketing & analytics best practices. Understanding of marketing, brand management, and publicity. Familiarity with book publishing, highly preferred.

Preferred: Experience in client-service role. Existing relationships with advertising reps and media outlets. Experience working with AMS, Amazons Ad platform, or Google PPC preferred.

Skills:

  • Strong analytical and metrics-based decision-making experience
  • Strong communication skills 6 both external communication to potential readers, as well as internal communication to facilitate the planning & execution of marketing strategies with core constituents including authors & agents.
  • Teamwork 6 this role works with integrated marketing plans and works cross-functionally with various team members throughout the organization.
