Job Description Summary:The Director of Learning Systems & Design provides strategic and operational leadership for the Mason School of Business' online graduate programs in the areas of learning management system (LMS) administration, instructional design, and digital learning innovation. The Mason School of Business at William & Mary hosts the Center for Online Learning and this role oversees the end-to-end management of the LMS environment, ensures high-quality course design aligned with online academic standards and accreditation requirements, and supports faculty in leveraging educational technology effectively to enhance student learning and engagement.
The ideal candidate is both a systems thinker and an academic collaborator-skilled at balancing technical infrastructure, user experience, and continuous improvement in online teaching and learning.

Job Description:Required Qualifications: Please make sure your cover letter and resume clearly indicate how you meet the following required qualifications:
- Master's degree in instructional design, educational technology, higher education administration, a related field, or equivalent combination of education, experience, and training.
- Progressively responsible experience (typically 7 years) in LMS administration and instructional design, preferably in online graduate education.
- Demonstrated experience managing teams and cross-functional projects.
- Expertise in one or more major learning management systems and associated integrations (e.g., Zoom, Turnitin, Kaltura, Respondus).
- Strong understanding of pedagogy for adult and graduate learners.
- Excellent project management, communication, and interpersonal skills.

- Doctorate or terminal degree in a related field.
- Experience within business education or AACSB-accredited programs.
- Certification in Quality Matters, Online Learning Consortium, or related training.
- Familiarity with data visualization tools (e.g., Power BI, Tableau) and basic HTML or SCORM packaging.
- Familiarity with CSS and Javascript.
Conditions of Employment:This position may require additional hours beyond the typical 40-hour work week, to meet the business needs of the operation. Remote work scheduling will be determined by the administration of the Mason School of Business.

Posting Range: $90,000 to $113,250 commensurate with experience
Job Duties: 35%- Learning Management System (LMS) Administration:- Oversee system configuration, integration, and user management of the LMS.
- Manage permissions, workflows, and quality control processes for course creation, copy, and archival.
- Ensure system stability, data integrity, and alignment with institutional policies and security protocols.
- Collaborate with IT and external vendors on system updates, troubleshooting, and data reporting.
- Generate analytics dashboards and reports to inform program improvement and decision-making.
35%- Instructional Design & Faculty Support:- Lead the design and revision of online graduate courses using backward design and evidence-based learning theories.
- Provide consultation and training for faculty on instructional design, assessment strategies, and accessibility standards (ADA Section 508, WCAG 2.1).
- Oversee the development of interactive and multimedia content to enhance engagement and learning outcomes.
- Establish and maintain a course review process, ensuring alignment with instructional quality standards.
- Promote continuous faculty development through workshops, one-on-one coaching, and digital learning communities.
10%- Leadership & Strategy:- Develop and implement a comprehensive strategy for LMS management, instructional design, and digital learning support aligned with program and institutional goals.
- Lead a team of instructional designers and specialists to ensure seamless course delivery and continuous user support.
- Partner with academic leadership to define and apply consistent design standards and best practices for course development and maintenance.
- Serve as the primary liaison between the online programs and campus IT, academic technology, and compliance units.
- Assess emerging technologies, recommend enhancements to learning environments, and develop plans for scalable adoption.
10%- Assessment, Quality, and Innovation:- Integrate data analytics from the LMS and other learning tools to support program evaluation, accreditation, and continuous improvement.
- Partner with Mason School of Business colleagues to ensure instructional design aligns with learning outcomes, employer needs, and student expectations.
- Lead initiatives to explore AI tools, adaptive learning, and emerging digital pedagogy relevant to graduate business education.
10%- Distance Education Policy, Regulation, and Accreditation:- Translates distance education policy and regulatory requirements into faculty-facing instructional practices for the online programs, coordinating with university operational offices to ensure alignment between course delivery, program structures, and evolving federal, state, and accreditor expectations.
- Partners with academic leadership and faculty engaged in accreditation and assurance-of-learning reporting processes to ensure instructional practices are accurately represented, aligned with measurable learning outcomes, and positioned for continuous quality enhancement across online programs.
