Director of Language Acquisition
Description: As the instructional leader for ESL at the high school and World Language Department K-12, the Director shall lead the design, innovation, strategic planning, budgeting, and implementation of the ESL curriculum and instruction at the high school and World Language K-12. The Director of Language Acquisition should have the knowledge and experience to provide high-quality ESL programming at the secondary level and World Language. The ideal candidate will be an experienced and licensed teacher and administrator in the respective discipline area who has demonstrated exemplary teaching and instructional leadership skills.
Working Time:
The Director of Language Acquisition will be required to work 226 days, exclusive of holidays. The length of the workday will be from 7:00 a.m. to 3:30 p.m.
Requirements:
? A Master's degree from an accredited institution in ESL, Applied Linguistics, Educational Administration or a related field.
? A graduate or an undergraduate major in ESL, Applied Linguistics, or a related field.
? Five years or more of teaching experience in the field of ESL and/or World Language.
? Massachusetts Department of Elementary and Secondary Education Certification for Supervisor/Director and ESL (9-12) and/or World Language
? Must possess the Sheltered English Immersion (SEI) Administrators Endorsement.

? A strong background in curriculum with experience in program design, evaluation, and management.
? Knowledge and understanding of teaching towards language proficiency
? A proven record in the management of students and student activities.
? Superior skills in articulating the goals and objectives of the school to the community of Everett.
? The ability to articulate the district philosophy to support families of students in crisis or need.
? Advanced computer skills
Essential Duties:
? Vet curricular, formative assessment, virtual platforms, and teacher tools for effectiveness and cultural responsiveness for ESL in grades 9-12 and World
Language instruction.
? Analyze formative assessment data, disaggregating and presenting to school leaders, teachers, and district leadership annually to drive department initiatives.
? Supervise and evaluate department teachers in collaboration with building leaders.
? Coordinate and develop the school system's curriculum and program to align with the WIDA Frameworks and the Massachusetts World Languages Curriculum Framework.
? Direct the development, evaluation, revision, and alignment of the ESL curriculum in grades 9-12 and World Languages K-12.
? Attend student support meetings for students who do not meet their progress targets, using a Multi-Tiered System of Supports to implement school-based interventions.
? Collaborate with the school's ETL and special education teachers on best practices for dually identified students.
? Support students' transition from grade 8 to high school, including collaboration with K-8 school leaders and other district curriculum leaders.
? Plan and coordinate summer assignments for all students and support curriculum development for summer and vacation credit recovery programs.
? Support the administration of school-wide assessments, including STAMP, ACCESS, and MCAS.
? Support the analysis of formative and summative assessment data across the department to assist in targeting instruction to better meet the needs of all students, including multilingual learners and students with disabilities.
? Arrange for staff development, workshops, and meetings designed to revise and align curriculum and assessments and improve instruction.
? Direct, organize, and coordinate the development of new and/or innovative district programs, including programs supporting multilingual learners and students with disabilities.
? Confer with department members, the Principal, and teachers to develop collaborative plans and curriculum to improve the instructional program.
? Confer with the classroom teachers and the Principal on school visits to improve the department's instructional practices and curriculum implementation.
? Preview and evaluate all curriculum materials and supplies used in the department.
? Hold department meetings and communicate regularly with department staff about the curriculum, events, and other opportunities for staff and students.
? Review and update teaching materials and techniques and, when necessary, organize in-service workshops in the field.
? Develop and maintain an inventory of all department equipment for each school in the District.
? Arrange for substitute teachers as needed for department staff.
? Support the recruitment, hiring, and retention of department staff in collaboration with building principals.
? Represent the district in committees at the regional and state levels.
? Prepare the department budget and oversee expenditures.
? Apply for grants and other funding sources that expand opportunities for students, families, and staff.
? Support the administration of the Massachusetts Seal of Biliteracy in compliance with state regulations.
? Coordinate, plan, and promote district-wide activities, including but not limited to annual arts events, theater performances, and concerts.
? Coordinate and assist in the development of the district-wide events calendar.
? Assist in assigning department teachers to take advantage of their skills and training.
? Attend district and school programs, productions, and events as a program representative.
? Support department teachers in using culturally responsive and collaborative practices to ensure that all families are welcome and can contribute to the effectiveness of the district, classroom, school, and community.
? Establish strategic relationships with community organizations, community members, and businesses.
? Support the implementation of school-wide efforts in their department, such as MyCAP and the Vision of a Graduate.
? Attend and support the implementation of ELPAC meetings, orientation for newcomer students and families, and family ELL nights.
? Serve as a member of the EL District Leadership team, which works together to support the advancement of English learners. (programming decisions, student support teams, curriculum teams, family engagement teams, etc).
? Facilitate and manage the completion of state-required paperwork and compliance for EL instruction and participation, including: opt-out and FEL monitoring, EL progress reports, Parent Notification letters, and management of the school's EL
folders
? Manage SLIFE identification and DOE reporting.
? Remain current on instructional methods, educational materials, and technology for improving the teaching and learning of all students.
? Perform such other duties and assume all other responsibilities that the Superintendent, Assistant Superintendents, and Principal may assign.
Salary:
The base salary for this position will be in accordance with the Collective Bargaining Agreement with the Everett Teachers Association Unit B. SY 26-27 Pay Range - $138,847-$144,759
