Full Job Description
Position Title: Director of Job Order Contracting

Take the lead of an established Job Order Contracting operation where your construction expertise, proposal knowledge, and leadership will directly shape the team's success. A well-established construction company in Chicago is seeking a Director of Job Order Contracting to lead a team of JOC Project Managers while remaining actively involved in proposal development and project strategy. This is a senior leadership role overseeing a diverse portfolio of maintenance and existing-facility projects spanning civil, underground, vertical, interior, and MEP construction.

The ideal candidate is a hands-on construction leader with genuine JOC expertise, direct experience personally building proposals and the management skills to lead an experienced project management team.

Salary Range: $150,000 - $175,000 / Year DOE

Responsibilities
  • Lead, mentor, and manage a team of approximately five to six JOC Project Managers, providing direction, accountability, and technical support
  • Personally develop and build JOC proposals, including hands-on work within eGordian, rather than solely reviewing proposals prepared by others
  • Oversee projects across a broad range of construction scopes, including civil, underground, vertical, interior, and MEP work
  • Provide leadership across a high-volume JOC operation supporting approximately 200 proposals annually across multiple contracts
  • Guide the execution of primarily maintenance and existing-facility projects, with the majority of individual projects valued below $2 million
  • Partner with senior leadership to maintain project quality, operational consistency, and strong performance across the JOC portfolio
  • Apply broad construction knowledge to solve project challenges, support PM decision-making and ensure proposals accurately reflect project requirements

Requirements
  • Demonstrated Job Order Contracting knowledge, including direct, hands-on experience personally building JOC proposals
  • Broad construction expertise across vertical and underground work, with exposure to civil, interior, and MEP scopes
  • Proven management experience, with the ability to lead, develop, and hold a team of Project Managers accountable
  • Strong understanding of maintenance, renovation, and existing-facility construction environments
  • Experience with eGordian or comparable JOC proposal systems strongly preferred
  • Bachelor's degree required
  • Ability and willingness to work 100% onsite in Chicago
