Job Summary

The Director of Instructional Design provides leadership for online course development, instructional design services, faculty support, and digital learning innovation across Angelo State Global and the university. The position supervises instructional design staff, establishes quality standards for online learning, oversees course development initiatives, and collaborates with academic leaders to enhance teaching and learning. The Director is responsible for reimagining and advancing instructional design services to support enrollment growth, student success, faculty development, and the evolving needs of Angelo State Global and Angelo State University.

Essential Duties
  1. Instructional Design Leadership- Provide leadership and supervision for instructional design staff and establish priorities, workflows, and service models that support online program growth and instructional excellence.
  2. Online Course Quality and Innovation- Develop and implement standards, processes, and continuous improvement practices that support high-quality online and hybrid learning experiences.
  3. Faculty Development and Support- Lead faculty development initiatives related to online teaching, course design, instructional technology, and emerging educational practices.
  4. Advising Operations and Continuous Improvement- Monitor advising caseloads, student outcomes, and service metrics. Utilize data and student feedback to improve advising services, identify trends, and recommend enhancements to support student success and operational effectiveness.
  5. Collaboration and Institutional Partnerships- Collaborate with academic colleges, Academic Affairs, Information Technology, student support units, and university leadership to advance teaching and learning initiatives.


Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
  • Knowledge of instructional design principles, learning theory, and online pedagogy.
  • Knowledge of online course quality standards and best practices.
  • Knowledge of accessibility requirements and instructional technology tools.
  • Knowledge of higher education course development processes.
  • Knowledge of faculty development and instructional innovation strategies.
  • Skilled in project management and team leadership.
  • Skilled in supporting and consulting with faculty on course design and online teaching.
  • Skilled in evaluating instructional technologies and emerging educational trends.
  • Ability to lead and develop professional instructional design staff.
  • Ability to build collaborative relationships across academic units.
  • Ability to use data and assessment results to improve teaching and learning outcomes.


Minimum Qualifications
  • Master's degree from an accredited institution and five years of progressively responsible experience in instructional design, online learning, educational technology, faculty development, or a related field, including experience leading projects, initiatives, or professional staff.
