About the RoleThe
Director of Institutional Data Analytics provides strategic leadership, management, and technical oversight for institutional reporting and analytics serving the University of South Carolina and its extended campuses. This role leads the Analytics and Data Governance team in the Division of IT, partnering with university leadership and governance groups to deliver reliable, actionable data and enterprise reporting solutions. The director also drives innovation in analytics, supports data governance and security, and promotes data quality, consistency, and integrity across reporting environments.
Key Responsibilities- Lead, mentor, and develop the Analytics and Data Governance team.
- Direct the implementation and maintenance of enterprise reporting and analytics solutions for the university and its extended campuses.
- Partner with university leadership, academic units, governance groups, and other stakeholders to identify needs and translate them into effective solutions.
- Modernize the institution's analytics capabilities.

Job Related Minimum Required Education and Experience - Requires a bachelor's degree in a job related field and at least 8 years of job related experience, including some prior management experience.
Required Certification, Licensure/Other CredentialsPreferred Qualifications - Master's degree in Data Analytics, Information Systems, Computer Science, Statistics, Higher Education Administration, Public Administration, Business Analytics, or a related field.
- Relevant certifications, such as Certified Data Management Professional (CDMP), Certified Analytics Professional (CAP), Project Management Professional (PMP)
- Seven (7) or more years of progressively responsible experience in institutional research, business intelligence, analytics, data management, or related fields.
- Three (3) or more years of supervisory or managerial experience leading technical or analytical teams.
- Experience supporting decision-making within higher education, preferably within a multi-campus university system.
- Experience developing enterprise reporting solutions, dashboards, and data visualizations in enterprise tools (e.g., Cognos, Tableau, PowerBI).
- Experience working with data warehouses, enterprise data systems (e.g., HR, Financial, Student Information, Learning Management), and large-scale institutional datasets.
- Demonstrated success leading cross-functional projects and stakeholder engagement initiatives.
- Experience with accreditation reporting, state and federal reporting requirements, and higher education performance metrics.
Knowledge/Skills/Abilities - Understanding of higher education data structures, business processes, and institutional research methodologies.
- Skilled in planning, organizing, and directing projects.
- Proven leadership in supervising individuals with varied skill sets and fostering effective teamwork.
- Strong collaboration skills across distributed, cross-functional teams.

Job Duty Team Leadership & Technical Oversight- Supervise, mentor, and evaluate staff on the Analytics and Data Governance team in the Division of Information Technology.
- Working with the AVP for IT Enterprise AI, Data, and Research Computing and governance groups, establish departmental priorities, goals, and performance expectations.
- Promote professional development and foster a culture of innovation, collaboration, continuous learning, and technical excellence.
- Direct the design, development, implementation, and maintenance of enterprise reporting and analytical solutions in alignment with data governance standards.
- Oversee technical architecture and reporting standards to ensure scalability, reliability, and consistency across the university and its extended campuses.
- Manage project portfolios, allocate resources, and monitor progress toward strategic objectives.

Job Duty Collaboration & Stakeholder Engagement- Working with the AVP for IT Enterprise AI, Data, and Research Computing and governance groups, identify reporting and analytical needs that serve stakeholders including university leadership, academic units, and extended campuses.
- Serve as a trusted advisor on institutional data, metrics, and analytical practices.
- Facilitate communication and collaboration among stakeholders to ensure alignment of reporting priorities and business requirements.
- Oversee requirements gathering, solution design discussions, and stakeholder consultations.
- Support institutional planning, assessment, accreditation, strategic initiatives, and decision-making through data-informed insights.
