Job Summary and Qualifications

This position, reporting directly to the Chief Operating Officer, has 24-hour accountability for the Engineering, and Security Departments, as well as construction, emergency preparedness, EPA, and EOC committee functions. Manage and direct the operation of the Engineering / Maintenance Department related to buildings, grounds, equipment, and office moves. Ensures efficient and cost effective acquisition, utilization, distribution, and maintenance of equipment and supplies used throughout the organization. Directs and oversees construction, Life Safety functions, and equipment management services. Administers a preventive maintenance program to facilitate uninterrupted service to patients and to assure safe conditions of employment for staff members. Serves as a member of the Environment of Care Committee and oversees the contract security services.• Develops and reviews annual departmental policies and procedures in compliance with the guidelines/standards of all applicable associations and/or governing bodies. Ensures staff remains knowledgeable of all policies and procedures relevant to their duties and responsibilities.

  • You will actively encourage staff to participate in the development and planning of department goals and objectives.
  • You will ensure departmental quality/PI plans and activities are ongoing, reporting as needed.
  • You will anticipate, identify and work to remove barriers which block the delivery of commitments.
  • You will monitor regulatory compliance for functions and ensures improvement to maintain compliance.
  • You will, in collaboration with Human Resources, hire and direct departmental staff in the performance of their duties.
  • You will demonstrate awareness of and commitment to the business and fiscal aspects of Round Rock Medical Center and the St. David's Healthcare Partnership.
  • You will prepare the annual department budget with input from the Nurse Managers, Supervisor and Nurse Educators in accordance with hospital procedures.
  • You will be responsible for increasing patient volumes in area(s) of responsibility.
  • You will take responsibility for improving work processes and eliminating unnecessary activities.
  • You will develop and effectively implement a program for the repair and maintenance of buildings, grounds, plant systems, and equipment, including procedures to measure and monitor results, analyze and implement quality improvement measures as indicated.
  • You will develop, implement, and monitor all measurement, collection, and evaluation of Hazards and Safety practices.
  • You will perform duties as a member of the Environment of Care Committee


What qualifications you will need:

  • High School Diploma; Five-year progressive responsibility in disciplines applicable to engineering, plant operations and construction preferably in medium multifaceted hospital. Must possess excellent written and verbal skills necessary to communicate with patients, staff and visitors.
  • Preferred: Bachelor's Degree in Business or related field
  • 3+ years in a leadership role
