Full Job Description
The Role

In this role you will oversee all matters as it pertains to stadium and performance center fields. You will be responsible for maintaining best in class fields for the athletes to ensure high performance and injury mitigation.

Key Responsibilities

Leadership & Team Development

  • Hire, train, and onboard an Assistant Director and Manager of Grounds.
  • Train crew members on the proper use of equipment, tools, and chemicals, including safe application practices.
  • Supervise and schedule part-time grounds staff.
  • Source and manage third-party contracts for grounds equipment, landscaping, and snow removal.

Field & Facility Operations

  • Oversee all grounds operations across Boston Legacy FC fields, including two natural grass fields and one artificial field at the Brockton Performance Center and a future natural grass field at White Stadium.
  • Maintain all playing surfaces and surrounding landscaping to professional standards.
  • Coordinate daily field maintenance across all facilities.
  • Manage competition equipment, including goals and backup goals, nets, corner flags, and field markings.
  • Support setup for on-field events at all Boston Legacy FC owned and operated venues.
  • Maintain organization and cleanliness of grounds storage and ancillary spaces.

Agronomy & Player Safety

  • Track growth progress, soil moisture, shear strength, and field hardness to safeguard player safety and surface quality.
  • Develop and execute fertilizer, fungicide, and pesticide application plans; maintain accurate application records and current licensure in the Commonwealth of Massachusetts.
  • Ensure all playing surfaces meet FIFA and NWSL standards.

Equipment & Systems

  • Perform preventive maintenance and keep all equipment fully operational, including mowers, sprayers, aerators, groomers, tractors, trucks, plows, hydronic heating systems, SubAir systems, irrigation, and field drainage.
  • Support procurement of FF&E and field maintenance equipment for both facilities.

Winter Readiness & Budget

  • Clear parking lots, sidewalks, and fields following snow events to ensure safe, timely access for players, staff, and, when applicable, fans.
  • Build, manage, and adhere to an annual operating budget, and support expense projections for events.

Work Environment & Physical Requirements

  • Primary work location will be the permanent stadium once construction is complete; workspace hoteling required at certain facilities in the interim.
  • Regular travel between club facilities as needed.
  • Frequent outdoor work in all weather conditions, including extreme heat, cold, and precipitation.
  • Ability to lift, push, and/or pull 50 lbs. on a daily basis, and occasionally more.
  • Extended periods of standing, walking, bending, and operating grounds equipment.


Minimum Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree.
  • 6+ years of grounds or sports turf management experience, including time in professional sports.
  • Working knowledge of field construction and maintenance across irrigation, drainage, rootzone, artificial turf, hydronic heating systems, SubAir systems, and grow lights.
  • Ability to obtain a Massachusetts pesticide applicator license within six months of hire.
  • Demonstrated experience recruiting, hiring, training, and developing a high-performing team.
  • Ability to work in a range of physical positions - including stooping, standing, bending, kneeling, and squatting - for extended periods.
  • Valid driver's license, or the ability to obtain one, and ability to meet company vehicle driving standards.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Turf Management, Horticulture, Agronomy, or Plant Science.
  • Experience in professional soccer (NWSL, MLS, or USSF).
  • Experience preparing and maintaining pitches for televised broadcast.
  • Experience managing third-party contractors across landscaping, equipment service, and snow removal.
  • Sports Field Management Association (SFMA) certification or equivalent credential.
