The successful candidate will bring deep expertise in freight and logistics operations, with hands-on experience leading teams, managing carrier relationships, navigating customs compliance, and driving continuous improvement. This is a blended operational and strategic role, with the expectation of maintaining a strong day-to-day presence while also contributing to longer-term freight strategy and process development.

This individual will develop and implement strategies to optimize transportation spend, improve service-level performance, and ensure the most efficient shipping modes are utilized across the organization's freight network.

The role is based in the Prairie Provinces and requires full-time, in-office presence. Candidates located elsewhere in Canada are encouraged to apply; relocation assistance is available for the successful candidate.

This is an excellent opportunity for a seasoned freight and logistics leader who wants to take ownership of a national transportation strategy, build strong operational processes, and lead an established team within a growing, diversified organization.

• Develop, mentor, and manage a high-performing team; foster a cohesive team culture with clear accountability and strong engagement
• Collaborate cross-functionally with internal departments to ensure alignment on freight requirements and facilitate clear communication with supplier and carrier partners
• Oversee carrier partner performance, including ongoing monitoring, evaluation, and relationship management
• Lead and support rate negotiations for national and international freight services, including carrier contracts and RFP processes
• Partner with Purchasing and Customs teams to ensure full compliance with domestic and international regulatory requirements
• Develop and deliver training across the logistics function and other relevant areas of the business to ensure regulatory awareness and operational compliance
• Manage freight payment, auditing, and accrual processes; collaborate with finance teams to explain cost variances and support accrual activities
• Leverage data and reporting tools to support decision-making, project management, and performance oversight
• Lead freight claims and loss prevention processes - identify risk exposure, implement mitigation strategies, and manage claim resolution
• Drive continuous improvement across key performance areas including freight cost management, on-time delivery, carrier performance, and operational visibility
• Perform other duties as required
Requirements
• Post-secondary education in logistics, supply chain, business, engineering, or a related discipline
• Minimum 5+ years of progressive leadership experience within a transportation or logistics environment

• International shipping experience including ocean and air freight
• Working knowledge of customs regulations and cross-border compliance requirements
• Proven ability to lead carrier negotiations, manage vendor relationships, and drive freight cost outcomes
• Strong analytical and reporting capability; comfortable using data to support decisions and track performance
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills; able to present and advise at a senior leadership level
• Sound judgment and problem-solving ability; capable of making confident decisions in a fast-paced environment
• Proficiency with Microsoft Office (Excel, PowerPoint, Word, Teams)
• Experience with ERP platforms; exposure to Transportation Management Systems (TMS) considered an asset
