Job Description:

Pennington Biomedical Research Center, a world-renowned academic research institute of Louisiana State University, is seeking a Director of Fiscal Operations in the Baton Rouge, Louisiana.

The Director of Fiscal Operations serves as a key advisor to the Chief Financial Officer and supports Pennington Biomedical's overall financial management.

The Director provides leadership and supervision to fiscal operations staff and oversees post-award financial administration, financial transactions, budget management, financial reporting, and financial projections.

Major Responsibilities
  • Prepare accurate and timely financial reports for internal and external stakeholders.
  • Coordinate all fiscal year-end activities.
  • Develop and maintain fiscal policies and standard operating procedures for the department and the Center; review and approve financial transactions in the role of Central Company Accountant.
  • Ensure compliance with applicable governmental accounting regulations and financial reporting requirements.
  • Coordinate financial and compliance audits and serve as the primary liaison for audit activities.
  • Develop appropriate accounting procedures for new economic ventures and public-private partnerships.
  • Provide oversight of procurement, internal financial reporting and projections, travel, wage and time submission processes, and post-award financial administration for sponsored agreements.
  • Manage ERP system security access for Center employees.
  • Provide leadership, supervision, and performance oversight for a team of nine employees.


Required Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree in Accounting or related field.
  • Minimum of five (5) years of professional experience in fiscal operations, accounting, financial management, or a related area.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Demonstrated ability to effectively lead and manage professional staff.
  • Ability to establish and maintain the trust and confidence of research scientists, administrators, and staff.
  • Ability to communicate with credibility, professionalism, and influence.
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities and adapt effectively to changing organizational needs.


Preferred Qualifications
  • Master's degree in Accounting or related field.
  • Ten (10) or more years of experience in fiscal operations, accounting, financial management, or a related area.
  • Experience in a higher education, academic research, or research administration environment.
  • Working knowledge of federal uniform guidance requirements, including administrative requirements, cost principles, audit requirements for federal awards, and federal post-award administration.
  • Experience preparing and reviewing financial reports.
  • Working knowledge of State of Louisiana budgeting and financial reporting processes.
