Job Responsibilities Reporting to the Vice President of Administrative Services, the Director of Facilities and Operations provides leadership and direction for the planning, maintenance, and operation of the College's facilities, grounds, custodial, and related services. The Director is responsible for the effective management of facilities operations, resources, service providers, capital improvement projects, and campus infrastructure, ensuring the College maintains a safe, functional, efficient, accessible, and welcoming environment. The Director also leads the College's emergency preparedness and response program and serves as a key advisor to College leadership on facilities and operational matters.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:- Direct the planning, maintenance, repair, and operation of the College's physical facilities, grounds, infrastructure, and related services. Establish priorities, operational plans, and service standards that support the College's academic, administrative, and student service needs.
- Provide leadership and supervision for College facilities staff and contracted grounds and custodial services. Establish performance expectations, assign and prioritize work, support employee development, and promote effective communication and collaboration. Monitor contracted services to ensure quality, responsiveness, and compliance with established service expectations. Coordinate with Campus Security and other departments on matters affecting daily campus operations.
- Direct preventive, routine, and corrective maintenance programs to promote the reliability, safety, and functionality of campus facilities and infrastructure. Monitor the condition of buildings, grounds, building systems, equipment, waste management and recycling services, and other physical assets. Coordinate facilities support for special events, campus activities, and operational needs.
- Develop, manage, and monitor operating budgets for facilities and operations. Evaluate resource needs, obtain and compare quotes, coordinate procurement of goods and services, and manage service agreements and vendors in accordance with College policies and applicable procurement requirements. Identify opportunities to improve operational efficiency, service delivery, and use of College resources.
- Serve as the College's facilities representative for permanent improvement projects, renovations, repairs, and other construction activities. Coordinate the work of architects, engineers, contractors, consultants, and other external partners; monitor project scope, schedules, budgets, and quality; identify and address issues; and communicate project status and recommendations to appropriate College leadership.
- Lead the College's Emergency Response Program and serve as a key liaison for emergency preparedness and response activities. Maintain and update emergency preparedness plans and related documentation, coordinate required training and drills, and ensure completion of required reporting and other applicable emergency preparedness requirements.
- Support a safe, healthy, accessible, and environmentally responsible campus environment. Monitor facilities practices for compliance with applicable laws, regulations, codes, safety requirements, and College policies. Identify opportunities to improve energy efficiency, sustainability, and operational effectiveness.
- Provide the Vice President of Administrative Services and other College leaders with recommendations, data, project updates, budget information, and other information related to facilities and operations. Participate in institutional planning and initiatives involving facilities, space utilization, campus infrastructure, and long-term capital needs.
- Develop and maintain effective internal and external partnerships with College departments, contractors, consultants, community partners, and other stakeholders to advance facilities and operational priorities. Maintain current knowledge of facilities management practices, building systems, safety requirements, emergency preparedness, sustainability, and applicable codes and regulations. Participate in professional development, College and community activities, committees, and other duties as assigned.
Minimum and Additional Requirements A high school diploma and professional experience in building repairs and maintenance, or in the specific area of assignment, and experience in a lead/supervisory role.
Preferred Qualifications Bachelor's degree in a related field and three (3) years of work experience in physical plant operations, to include two (2) years in a supervisory capacity preferred. Experience in higher education facilities operations, facilities planning and maintenance, capital projects, and contract/vendor management preferred.
