Why this role existsEvents are one of our best channels. Some of what that's looked like:
- We bought 1,000 tickets to a Cincinnati Reds game and turned it into the market research industry's biggest night out.
- At a conference in Eastern Europe, we handed out Vericigs: branded cigarette packs with the tagline "We smoke fraud" and a warning label reading "Verisoul is harmful to bots." A customer later told us that's how they first heard of us.
- Smaller mischief, too: a fake toy store booth, room service menus slipped under attendees' hotel doors.
We want a full calendar of ideas at that level, owned by one person whose whole job is to dream them up and make them happen. That's this role.
What you'll own- Event strategy end to end: collaboratively decide which conferences we show up to, what we do when we get there, and the events we invent from scratch.
- The ideas themselves. You'll pitch concepts, defend them, kill the mediocre ones, and push the best past "that's too weird" into "that worked."
- Execution: budget, vendors, venues, timelines. You'll own this, but will get support from contractors.
- Results: pipeline and brand lift you can point to, including the deals that start with "I first heard of you at..."
You'll work directly with leadership and growth team (marketing & sales), with real creative license and budget when it matters. This is a mid-senior individual contributor role with no direct reports, but you'll be supported with in-house and contractor resources.
What great looks like in year one- Two or three activations that people in our industries describe to colleagues who weren't there.
- A repeatable events engine: a calendar, a budget you manage like an owner, and a playbook for going from idea to shipped in weeks.
- Sourced pipeline you can defend in a board deck, and at least one moment the whole industry talks about.
Who thrives hereYou have a portfolio of weird bets that worked, strong opinions about why they worked, and the hands to execute: you can negotiate a venue, write a punchy tagline, and carry boxes, all in the same week. You know where the line is between irreverent and off-brand, and you like working close to it.
You're strategic and scrappy. We're growing rapidly, so you won't be inheriting a playbook and processes. We hope your favorite case study isn't just a well-run 10x10 booth, a badge-scan count, or a flawless vendor spreadsheet. This job is in Austin, in person, five days a week.
