General Summary
The Opportunity
BREC is seeking an organized, resourceful, and highly trusted professional to serve as Director of Executive Operations in the Office of the Superintendent. The Director will help the Superintendent/CEO manage executive priorities, prepare for decisions, coordinate Commission and organizational follow up, and ensure important assignments continue moving across a complex parishwide parks and recreation system.
This is a working director role for someone who can research, write, analyze, organize, communicate, and deliver. The successful candidate will handle sensitive information, manage competing deadlines, coordinate people who may not report to the position, and bring structure and reliable follow through to work that crosses departmental or organizational boundaries.
Requirements and Job Specifications
Minimum Qualifications
• Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university in public administration, business administration, organizational leadership, communications, project management, government, or a closely related field.
• At least five years of progressively responsible experience in executive administration, project management, public administration, operations, organizational improvement, board or commission support, or a comparable field.
• At least three years directly supporting an agency head, chief executive officer, superintendent, city or parish administrator, or comparable senior executive, with responsibility for executive administration, priorities and deadlines, confidential assignments, meeting preparation and follow through, and special projects or cross functional work.
• Demonstrated ability to manage multiple complex assignments, write clearly, analyze information, prepare executive level materials, coordinate stakeholders, and follow work through completion.
• Valid driver's license in good standing and the ability to obtain a Louisiana driver's license within 60 days of hire when required.
Preferred Qualifications
• Experience supporting a public agency chief executive, elected or appointed official, executive leadership team, board, commission, or governing body.
• Experience in local government, parks and recreation, education, nonprofit administration, or another large multi site public service organization.
• Experience with project management, process improvement, research, executive communications, public meetings, records, procurement, contracts, grants, budgets, technology implementation, or major operating and capital projects.
• Advanced degree or recognized credential in project management, process improvement, public administration, organizational leadership, or a related field.
Functions and Duties
What You Will Lead
• The executive priority, calendar, briefing, correspondence, decision tracking, and follow up systems for the Office of the Superintendent.
• Executive leadership meetings, priority sessions, operating reviews, and Commission follow up, including clear documentation of decisions, owners, due dates, and required approvals.
• Special projects assigned by the Superintendent/CEO from written scope and work plan through implementation, closeout, and transition to the permanent operating owner.
• Research, analysis, options, recommendations, reports, presentations, talking points, and other decision ready executive materials.
• Cross departmental coordination, administrative problem solving, workflow improvement, and early identification of delay, risk, resource conflict, or unclear ownership.
• Assigned governmental, community, nonprofit, foundation, business, and institutional relationships, meetings, events, and partnership work.
• Project coordination involving consultants, vendors, budgets, contracts, procurement, technology, grants, capital needs, or operating implications in partnership with the responsible departments.
• Executive office records, correspondence, meeting preparation, document control, status reporting, and administrative systems that improve reliability and accountability.
• Confidential, sensitive, high visibility, time critical, and emergency support assignments requiring discretion, accuracy, calm judgment, and consistent follow through.
