The Role:

Yubico is looking for an experienced Director of Engineering to lead and scale our distributed Production & Fulfillment Systems software development team. This team works closely with our hardware, solutions engineering, and production teams to build enterprise-grade, secured, reliable, integrated software to produce YubiKey devices at scale.

In this leadership role, you will be responsible for defining the engineering vision and championing the development of next-generation production systems to drive higher levels of automation efficiency and scale. You will collaborate effectively with cross functional Engineering, Product Management, Supply Chain/Production, and Operations teams to execute complex, high-impact solutions across a global engineering workforce.

Tasks & Responsibilities:
  • Strategic Leadership & Technical Oversight: Define and execute the engineering vision for production systems, ensuring alignment with overarching business goals. Provide architectural guidance and oversee the delivery of scalable and maintainable existing and new enterprise-class software solutions.
  • Team Management & Mentorship: Lead, scale, and mentor geographically distributed teams of software development engineers and managers at all levels. Nurture an inclusive environment and foster a high-performance culture across multiple locations.
  • Cross-Functional Collaboration: Collaborate deeply and broadly with cross-functional teams spanning production hardware, product management, supply chain, and business leadership to align engineering efforts with customer needs and company objectives.
  • Process Optimization & Engineering Excellence: Continuously improve our ability to deliver quality solutions by driving the adoption of best practices for Agile, DevOps, CI/CD, and automation. Demonstrate a proven ability to continue raising the quality bar in Engineering Excellence.
  • Budget & Resource Management: Optimize team resources, prepare realistic estimates, and manage broad development portfolios consistently on schedule and on budget, balancing cost-efficiency with talent retention and innovation.
  • Technology Evaluation: Stay ahead of industry trends and emerging technologies to evaluate and drive innovation in industrial and manufacturing automation.
Basic Qualifications:
  • Bachelor's Degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or a related field (or equivalent experience).
  • 12+ years of progressively broadening engineering experience, with a strong track record of success in the software development and delivery of complex, enterprise-class software.
  • 5+ years in significant leadership roles, including proven experience managing distributed engineering teams and large-scale application development for Windows desktop and Google Cloud deployments.
  • Strong business and technical acumen with a strong understanding of development processes and project planning and execution management.
  • Demonstrates a "high organizational IQ", successfully navigating and managing highly technical, geographically distributed teams.
  • Excellent leadership, communication, and stakeholder management skills to convey complex technical information effectively to a wide variety of stakeholders and audiences at all levels.
Preferred Qualifications:
  • Experience with firmware development, embedded systems, Windows/Linux operating systems, and the unique challenges developers face on these platforms.
  • Experience working with cryptographic systems such as Public Key Infrastructure (PKI) or critical management systems such as Hardware Security Modules (HSMs).
  • Good understanding of industrial and manufacturing automation designs and implementations.
  • Excellent analytical and problem solving skills with hands-on approach to software development and guiding the team to solving complex technical challenges

Yubico offers a holistic Total Rewards package designed to support our employees in all aspects of their life inside and outside of work. This role has the annual salary range as defined below for a salary pay range for a candidate located in the San Francisco Bay Area. For roles that are filled in other locations, the compensation range will be based on data provided by the Radford McLagan Compensation Database from Aon. Final compensation is also based on a number of factors including, but not limited to, job-related knowledge, skills, and experience.
