Director of Engineering who is responsible for driving operational performance through planning, organizing and directing of the Engineering departments. The successful candidate will be a results-oriented team player with strong analytical skills, a process improvement mindset, detail orientation, and excellent verbal and written communication abilities.
Location: Onsite - Bessemer, Alabama
What You'll Do- Supervise and direct the actions of an onsite engineering department as well as a 3rd party engineering team in India.
- Communicates with other departments and vendors on technical matters as required.
- Providing support for Sales, Operations, Quality Assurance, and Manufacturing Engineering.
- Designing products based upon the interpretation of IEEE specifications, customer specifications, and acceptable manufacturing processes.
- Providing supervision/development of Engineering personnel
- Assisting in business planning.
- Reviewing or developing BOMs to meet customer product requirements.
- Training RSMC personnel and sales agents regarding product design.
- Maintaining good working relationships with peers in all departments.
- Specifying and documenting the requirements for materials, processes, and products including all Engineering documentation (drawings, certified test reports, computer work documentation, etc.)
- Properly using, caring for, and maintaining acquisition of tools, instruments, factory equipment, test equipment, and office equipment required to perform job tasks.
- Maintaining extensive internal contact with all departments, contact with agents, customers, vendors, and IEEE committees as directed including technical presentations.
What You'll Need to Excel in This Role- Bachelor's degree in mechanical or electrical engineering from an accredited school required.
- 5+ years of relevant business and 3+ years supervisory experience required.
- Self-motivation with a positive, adaptive, and success-seeking mentality.
- Working knowledge of Engineering principles, IEEE specifications and test methods.
- Communication and interpersonal skills
- Computer hardware and software experience in CAD and CNC programming.
- Professional Engineering certification is desirable but not required.
- MBA is desirable but not required.
- Timely and well-organized communicator.
- Comfortable with Microsoft Office.
- Experience with ERP systems, INFOR SyteLine is a plus.
- Power and/or electrical system knowledge.

- Ability to work independently and be self-directed as needed
- WMS experience and knowledge preferred
- ERP system knowledge (JD Edwards preferred)
