We are seeking a Director of Engineering to lead our Platform Engineering organization, the team responsible for the infrastructure that powers and scales Turnkey's core product.This is a senior leadership role reporting to CTO/Co-Founder Jack Kearney, owning both the technical direction and the people leadership of the org. What You'll Do: Strategic Vision and Leadership • Own the engineering strategy and technical vision for Turnkey's Platform Engineering organization, spanning infrastructure, reliability and performance, releases and internal tooling. • Build, manage, and grow a high-performing engineering org, including hiring and developing engineering managers and senior ICs • Partner closely with Product Engineering and company leadership to ensure platform investments align with customer and business needs • Identify and evaluate emerging technologies and trends in distributed systems and cloud infrastructure, and guide their integration into our platform • Contribute to company-wide strategic planning and technical decision-making as a member of the engineering leadership team Organizational & People Leadership • Define and evolve the org structure, leveling, and career paths for the Platform Engineering team as it scales • Drive recruitment, onboarding, and retention of top infrastructure and security-minded engineering talent • Set and uphold engineering rituals (on-call, incident review, capacity planning, etc.) that keep the org resilient and accountable • Coach and develop managers and senior engineers, building a durable leadership bench Architectural Oversight & Technical Direction • Provide strategic technical guidance across foundational systems, ensuring intelligent architectural decisions that support long-term scalability, security, and reliability • Oversee the design and implementation of our cloud and network infrastructure, company-wide security architecture and controls, and the operational tooling and practices that keep production systems healthy. • Ensure the scalability, security, and reliability of infrastructure, addressing the complexities of distributed systems and adversarial threat models • Define and drive processes; security reviews, capacity planning, testing, incident response, that ensure quality and consistency across infrastructure development What We're Looking For: • Proven experience managing engineering managers and/or leading a multi-team engineering org (not just individual teams) • Deep understanding of distributed systems, cloud infrastructure, and security architecture, with the ability to lead in-depth technical discussions and make final calls on tradeoffs • A track record of operating and scaling infrastructure that demands high availability, performance, and a strong security posture • Excellence at holding a high bar on software quality and engineering process, even while moving fast • A healthy amount of paranoia :-) Style Points • Prior experience working in fast-paced crypto/web3 and/or FinTech companies, especially with exposure to security-critical infrastructure • Experience scaling an infrastructure org through a significant growth stage (e.g., Series B 12 C, or comparable) • Actively tracking developments in the crypto ecosystem and opinionated on where it's going What We Offer • Full benefits, including medical, dental, vision, life, disability, HSA/FSA, 401(k) - detailed benefits overview available as we get further in the process • Paid parental leave • Unlimited PTO • $3,000/yr learning and development budget to attend industry conferences • Multiple team offsites per year • Lunch stipend Compensation range $250,000-$290,000 USD
