Hilton Grand Vacations is seeking a Director of Engineering to lead one of the largest and most sophisticated resort engineering operations in Hawaiʻi. This role is ideal for a hands-on engineering leader who combines deep technical expertise with strong business acumen and people leadership. The successful candidate will be a trusted resource to both campus leadership and the engineering team, bringing credibility through practical knowledge of HVAC, electrical, plumbing, life safety, and critical building systems while driving operational excellence across HGV-managed towers within the Hilton Hawaiian Village campus.

Leading all engineering and maintenance operations supporting a 24/7 resort environment, the Director is responsible for ensuring safe, efficient, and high-quality physical environments for owners, guests, and team members. This role oversees complex mechanical, electrical, HVAC, structural, and life safety systems; capital improvement projects; asset preservation initiatives; and regulatory compliance. The ideal candidate is an engineering expert who has earned the respect of technical teams through strong operational knowledge and sound decision-making, while also demonstrating the leadership capability to develop talent, manage budgets, partner effectively with union and non-union team members, and contribute to the long-term success of the campus.

Success in this role requires balancing strategic planning with hands-on technical leadership, serving as both a mentor to engineering professionals and a key partner to campus leadership in driving energy efficiency, operational performance, asset reliability, and exceptional owner and guest experiences within one of Hawaiʻi's most iconic hospitality destinations.

Additional Responsibilities Include:
  • Lead daily engineering operations across resort towers, including inspections, repairs, and preventive maintenance.
  • Ensure all building systems (mechanical, electrical, HVAC) operate safely and efficiently.
  • Oversee emergency preparedness and safety protocols.
  • Manage departmental budgets, purchasing, and inventory control.
  • Supervise maintenance projects in guest rooms, public spaces, and back-of-house areas.
  • Maintain compliance with QA standards, OSHA regulations, and internal policies.
  • Partner with HR on recruitment, performance management, and labor relations.
  • Coordinate onboarding and development plans for engineering team members.
  • Collaborate with vendors and suppliers to meet operational and financial goals.
  • Provide reporting and forecast support to resort leadership.

To fulfill this role efficiently, you must possess the following minimum qualifications and experience:
  • High School Diploma or equivalent
  • 2+ years as Director of Engineering in a hotel or resort with 200+ rooms
  • 4+ years of management experience, preferably leading engineering or maintenance teams
  • 5+ years of related engineering experience, preferably in hospitality or facilities management
  • Experience with sophisticated mechanical systems, building equipment commissioning
  • Experience working in Hawaii or a comparable resort destination environment preferred.
  • PM Systems experience (Synergy, HOTSOS as examples)
  • Strong understanding of building systems including HVAC, electrical, plumbing, and structural maintenance.
  • Knowledge of OSHA standards, emergency preparedness, and safety protocols.
  • Experience managing preventive maintenance programs and small-scale renovation projects.
  • Ability to manage departmental budgets, control costs, and forecast operational needs.
  • Effective verbal and written communication skills for cross-functional collaboration.
  • Experience leading engineering teams in a union environment or partnering effectively with union-represented team members preferred.
  • Familiarity with maintenance management systems (e.g., CMMS), building automation systems, and energy management tools.


It would be advantageous in this position for you to demonstrate the following capabilities and distinctions:
  • Bachelor's Degree or higher
  • LEED, PMP, or trade-specific licenses
  • Experience leading large-scale capital improvement projects.
  • Understanding and proven success with labor relations.
  • Knowledge of energy conservation strategies and green building practices.
  • Ability to analyze financial data and contribute to long-term reserve planning.
