About the RoleDoorDash is seeking a Director of Engineering with a deep background in Large-Scale Systems, Machine Learning, and Mathematical Optimization to lead our Logistics team in San Francisco. In this role, you are the architect of our three-sided marketplace. You will oversee the development of the core fulfillment platforms responsible for real-time dispatching, dynamic pricing task-allocation, ETAs and supply-demand balancing. - Scale High-Throughput Infrastructure: Evolve the underlying distributed systems to handle exponential growth, ensuring the platform remains stable under the load of millions of concurrent requests.
- Cross-Functional Leadership: Partner with Business, Product, and Data Science to turn high-level marketplace objectives into technical roadmaps that balance long-term platform health with immediate business impact.
- Champion Engineering Excellence: Scale the organization by mentoring high-growth leaders and attracting world-class talent in the fields of Distributed Systems and Applied AI.
We're excited about you because you have...- A B.S., M.S., or Ph.D. in Computer Science or equivalent.
- 12+ years of software engineering experience, including 7+ years leading engineering managers and multiple teams.
- Experience building and scaling high-performing engineering organizations. You've led multiple teams through hypergrowth, re-orgs, developed managers into leaders, and created leverage through systems and strategy.
- A strategic mindset that shapes technical direction. You define multi-quarter roadmaps, make high-stakes architectural decisions at scale, and translate ambiguous business problems into clear technical strategies.
- The ability to operate at the intersection of engineering, product, and business. You partner with cross-functional leaders to align on priorities, rally teams around shared goals, and use strong product instincts to drive business-critical outcomes.
- Deep experience developing talent and building culture. You hire, coach, and promote strong engineering leaders while raising the bar on engineering excellence.
CompensationThe successful candidate's starting pay will fall within the pay range listed below and is determined based on job-related factors including, but not limited to, skills, experience, qualifications, work location, and market conditions. Base salary is localized according to an employee's work location. Ranges are market-dependent and may be modified in the future.

- For salaried roles: flexible paid time off/vacation, plus 80 hours of paid sick time per year.
- For hourly roles: vacation accrued at about 1 hour for every 25.97 hours worked (e.g. about 6.7 hours/month if working 40 hours/week; about 3.4 hours/month if working 20 hours/week), and paid sick time accrued at 1 hour for every 30 hours worked (e.g. about 5.8 hours/month if working 40 hours/week; about 2.9 hours/month if working 20 hours/week).
The national base pay range for this position within the United States, including Illinois and Colorado.
