Job DescriptionResponsibilities:Job Summary:The Corporate Director of Energy & Building Automation is responsible for the consultation, evaluation, planning, implementation, and oversight of enterprise-wide energy and automation initiatives, including building automation systems, HVAC controls, utility monitoring, energy conservation projects, analytics platforms, and critical environment controls. Responsibilities include establishing system-wide standards, reviewing and approving automation designs and sequences of operation, managing capital improvement programs, and providing technical leadership for controls integration, commissioning, and system optimization.
Key Responsibilities:- Provides strategic leadership and enterprise oversight for Building Automation Systems (BAS), Energy Management Systems (EMS), Fault Detection & Diagnostics (FDD), and connected building technologies across all health system facilities.
- Develops and executes system-wide energy, automation, and infrastructure strategies that improve facility reliability, operational performance, regulatory compliance, sustainability, and utility cost management.
- Establishes and maintains standards for controls architecture, system integration, cybersecurity, graphics, alarming, naming conventions, and sequences of operation to ensure consistency across the organization.
- Directs the planning, replacement, modernization, expansion, and lifecycle management of BAS and energy management infrastructure through a comprehensive long-range master plan.
- Oversees automation systems supporting HVAC, refrigeration, lighting controls, security, access control, fire alarm interfaces, utility monitoring, elevator monitoring, and other critical facility technologies.
- Leads energy management initiatives by analyzing utility and operational performance metrics, identifying conservation opportunities, securing incentives, and implementing optimization and capital improvement projects.
- Provides technical expertise in building automation, controls engineering, commissioning, retro-commissioning, predictive analytics, critical environment management, and system performance optimization.
- Directs the programming, integration, startup, testing, commissioning, acceptance, and ongoing support of automation systems while ensuring compliance with applicable codes, standards, and healthcare regulations.
- Collaborates with facility leadership, clinical stakeholders, infection prevention, engineering, information technology, and information security teams to support safe and reliable operation of critical healthcare environments.
- Leads troubleshooting, root cause analysis, and resolution of complex automation, controls, and environmental performance issues while supporting emergency operations and business continuity requirements.
- Develops and manages operating and capital budgets, financial forecasts, project plans, and performance metrics to ensure projects are delivered on schedule, within budget, and with measurable return on investment.
- Provides leadership for departmental staff, contractors, consultants, and vendors through workforce development, technical training, succession planning, and performance management initiatives.
- Performs additional duties as assigned to support departmental and organizational goals.
Qualifications:Education & Experience:- Minimum of a High School Diploma/GED.
- Minimum of eight (8) years progressive experience in facilities management, building automation, energy management, controls engineering, or a related technical discipline.
- Minimum of three (3) years leadership experience with direct responsibility for personnel, budgets, strategic initiatives, or enterprise programs.
Licenses & Certifications:- Due to insurance regulations, must be at least 21 years of age with a valid driver's license.
- Valid EPA Refrigerant Recovery certification
Essential Skills:- Demonstrated experience with commercial or healthcare BAS platforms including Niagara/Tridium, Automated Logic WebCTRL, Johnson Controls Metasys, Siemens, Schneider Electric, or equivalent systems.
- Demonstrated knowledge of HVAC systems, chiller plants, boiler plants, refrigeration systems, energy management systems, control systems integration, and critical healthcare facility environments.
- Knowledge of fault detection and diagnostics platforms, analytics software, commissioning practices, energy management methodologies, and project delivery processes.
- Working knowledge of DNV standards, CMS Conditions of Participation, NFPA 99, NFPA 70, NFPA 101, ASHRAE standards, and applicable healthcare facility regulations.
