Director of Employment and Day Habilitation Services

Location: Middlesex & Somerset Counties, NJ
Schedule: Full-Time | Monday-Friday | 8:30 AM-4:30 PM

What You'll Do

The Director, Employment and Day Services provides strategic leadership, operational day-to-day oversight, and program development for supported employment, prevocational, day habilitation, and Centers of Excellence (COE) programs. This role ensures high-quality, person-centered services that promote independence, skill development, and community integration while maintaining full compliance with regulatory and licensing requirements.

Key responsibilities include:
  • Lead, mentor, and develop a high-performing team of managers, supervisors, and direct service professionals
  • Ensure effective staffing models to support service delivery across supported employment, prevocational, day habilitation, and COE programs.
  • Provide strategic direction and regular in-person oversight for supported employment, prevocational training, day habilitation, and COE programming.
  • Ensure services are person-centered, promoting choice, independence, and meaningful community participation.
  • Lead initiatives to expand and enhance supported employment, prevocational, day habilitation, and COE services.
  • Identify opportunities for program growth through market analysis, community needs assessment, and stakeholder input.
  • Strengthen relationships with employers, community partners, and referral sources to increase service capacity and employment outcomes.
  • Oversee financial operations: overall budgeting and forecast alignment, management of annual budgets, monthly P&L review.
  • Ensure full compliance with all regulatory, licensing, CARF, and state-specific requirements.
  • Ensure 100% staff compliance with training, documentation, and reporting standards.
  • Oversee program audits, licensing reviews, and contract deliverables.
  • Partner with Compliance on incident management and investigations.
  • Ensure all participant records and documentation are accurate, complete, and audit-ready.
  • Use data and outcome metrics to drive continuous quality improvement across programs.
  • Develop and implement systems and process improvements to increase efficiency and reduce operational risk.
  • Partner with IT to optimize electronic systems for documentation, reporting, and outcome tracking.
  • Collaborate with the AVP, IDD Services and internal leadership to align program strategy with organizational goals.
  • Represent the organization in community forums, committees, and external partnerships.
  • Serve as escalation point and leadership support for program operations.

Who You Are:
  • Education: Bachelor's degree required; Master's preferred in Human Services, Rehabilitation, or related field.
  • Experience: Demonstrated leadership experience in supported employment, prevocational, day habilitation, or IDD services.
  • Requirements: Strong knowledge of CARF standards and regulatory requirements and proven ability to lead program growth, manage budgets, and develop high-performing teams.
  • Skills: Strong analytical and problem-solving skills; track record of implementing new initiatives with successful outcomes. Excellent verbal and written communication skills
