Job Responsibilities

The Director of Development serves as the SCC Foundation's lead fundraising professional, responsible for developing meaningful relationships that inspire philanthropic investment in Spartanburg Community College. The Director of Development focuses on building strong relationships with individuals, corporations, alumni, community leaders, and philanthropic partners to generate support for scholarships, student success initiatives, academic programs, and strategic college priorities. The Director of Development manages a portfolio of major-gift prospects and donors while helping to expand partnerships that support workforce development and regional economic growth.

Major Gift Fundraising and Relationship Management - Develops, manages, and grows a portfolio of individual, corporate, foundation, and community prospects. Identifies, cultivates, solicits, and stewards donors capable of making leadership and major gifts. Conducts donor discovery meetings, cultivation visits, solicitation meetings, and stewardship contacts. Develops individualized engagement and solicitation strategies for assigned prospects. Prepares gift proposals, presentations, and case materials that effectively communicate SCC Foundation priorities. Collaborates with the Executive Director and Foundation Board members to strengthen donor relationships and secure philanthropic investments. Maintains accurate donor records and prospect activity within the Foundation's donor management system. Achieves established fundraising, donor engagement, and portfolio management goals.

Corporate Partnerships and Workforce Development Support - Develops relationships with business and industry leaders across the College's service region. Identifies opportunities for philanthropic investment in workforce development, career readiness, student scholarships, equipment, and program innovation. Partners with college leaders to connect workforce priorities with donor and corporate interests. Supports employer and community partnerships that advance student success and strengthen the regional workforce. Represents the Foundation at selected business, workforce, and community events.

Donor Stewardship and Engagement - Develops and implements stewardship activities that encourage long-term donor engagement and retention. Coordinates meaningful recognition and impact reporting for donors. Creates opportunities for donors to engage with students, faculty, and programs supported by their philanthropy. Ensures timely acknowledgment and stewardship of gifts. Communicates the impact of donor investments through compelling stories and outcomes.

Campaign and Fundraising Initiative Support - Assists with planning and implementing Foundation fundraising initiatives and campaign activities. Supports donor strategy development for major fundraising priorities and capital projects. Helps build and strengthen the Foundation's future campaign pipeline. Assists with fundraising events and donor engagement activities when they support relationship-building objectives. Monitors and tracks fundraising activity, donor engagement, and progress toward goals. Prepares reports and updates as requested by the Executive Director and Foundation Board leadership. Supports prospect research and donor strategy planning.
Minimum and Additional Requirements

A bachelor's degree and related experience in an area such as alumni development, fundraising, prospect research, or business development.
Preferred Qualifications

Five or more years of successful fundraising, business development, or advancement experience. Experience securing major gifts, sponsorships, or charitable investments. Experience in higher education, nonprofit development, workforce development, or community engagement. Experience using donor management and fundraising CRM systems.
Additional Comments

Evening/weekend hours and travel to other campuses may occasionally be required for scheduled events.
