Full Job Description
The Director of Development supports the overall strategic efforts of Liberty University by refining and implementing the Office of Development’s fundraising activities. The DOD will foster collaborative relationships with campus colleagues and University constituents by coordinating joint solicitation efforts and multiple development programs and initiatives within the Office of Development.

The following description generally describes a Director in the office of Development and includes the minimum qualifications common to all specific jobs

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS AND RESPONSIBILITIES

1. Establishes and maintains collaborative working relationships with Liberty University development colleagues and campus constituents to maximize total gift revenue, plan solicitation strategies, and leverage joint solicitation efforts.

2. Assists and/or leads in short- and long-range strategic planning activities to create and implement fund-raising goals and objectives.

3. Maintain accurate and detailed records, contact reports and background data to facilitate periodic reports on activities and costs.

4. Work effectively as a team member, embracing and fostering LU’s mission.

5. Ability to articulate and defend the unique Christian educational mission and vision of Liberty University and its subsidiaries to a wide variety of individuals and groups.

6. Ability to maintain confidentiality while managing highly sensitive documents and information.

7. Other duties as assigned.

EXTERNAL RELATIONSHIPS

Build ongoing relationships with alum, donors, businesses, students, parents of students, and friends of Liberty University.

QUALIFICATIONS, CREDENTIALS and COMPENTENCIES

1. Bachelor’s Degree or equivalent experience.

2. Minimum 3-5 years of successful experience in development, alumni relations or athletic fundraising, or donor relations position preferably in higher education required based on the specific job. (Director of Development-Flames Club Operations requires a minimum of 2 years of collegiate development or similar professional experience)

3. Exceptional interpersonal skills and the ability to interact effectively with academic leadership, faculty, prospects, donors, and/or volunteers in a wide range of roles.

4. Proficiency in Microsoft Word, Excel, Access, Power-Point as well as management skills in other fundraising databases or support modules i.e., Salesforce, Raiser’s Edge, CRM, Wealth Profile, People Search, or Analytics.

5. Ability to conduct research, gather data, analyze information, and prepare effective, accurate, and timely reports and other documents to support development objectives.

6. Ability to exercise good judgment, to demonstrate an understanding of ethics related to development activities, and to use discretion in interactions with donors, prospects, volunteers, university staff, and others.

7. Ability to understand the needs and interests of schools/colleges and donors to foster effective working relationships within a team environment.

Communication and Comprehension
  • Ability to effectively communicate both verbally and in writing to convey clear, well articulated information.

  • Ability to understand, speak, and write in English to convey messages and correspond in an articulate and professional manner.

  • Possess public communication skills that allow professional representation of Liberty University to a variety of business, government and community customers and associates.

  • Strong organizational skills.

  • Requires basic computer skills.

  • Intuitively able to reason, analyze information and events, and apply judgment to solve problems of a routine nature.


Physical and Sensory Abilities
  • Frequently required to sit for extended periods to perform deskwork or type on a keyboard.

  • Regularly required to hear and speak to effectively communicate orally.

  • Occasionally required to stand, walk, and climb stairs to move about the building.

  • Handle materials, reach overhead, kneel or stoop to conduct business.

  • Occasionally lift 10 or fewer pounds.


WORKING CONDITIONS

Work Environment

The working environment in which one will typically perform the essential functions of this position is a climate-controlled office setting.  It is well lighted, and the noise level is moderate.      

Driving Requirements

Use of one’s personal vehicle (or LU vehicles) is not required for travel in the performance of the essential functions of this position.

Pay Range

Compensation is determined based on factors such as qualifications, experience, education, skills, and certifications, along with University needs and external market conditions. Market benchmarks may be used, as appropriate, in combination with internal equity to ensure pay is fair and aligned with the broader compensation structure.


The position may also be eligible for comprehensive benefits, including health insurance, retirement plans, and tuition assistance.

 

 

$120,000.00 - $140,000.00
