Position Responsibilities: We are seeking a Director of Development who can lead and strengthen this work in partnership with senior leadership, staff, and board members. The Director of Development (DOD) is responsible for leading the development, implementation, coordination, and expansion of AgeSpan's fundraising program. The DOD works closely with the Chief Strategy Officer (CSO) and Chief Executive Officer (CEO) to align the organization's development and fundraising functions with AgeSpan's strategic plan and ensure that AgeSpan's vision, core values, and culture are reflected in the overall strategy.
Essential Functions: (Core duties or tasks that are fundamental and not marginal to the performance of the job)
- Solidify a strategic plan for ongoing cultivation, fundraising, and stewardship, ensuring that fundraising strategies align with the agency's mission, vision, and culture.
- Coordinate the various components of the agency's development and philanthropy efforts, including community relations, events, donor relations, annual giving, major gifts, private foundation fundraising, grant strategy, and corporate giving, to ensure a consistent and cohesive overall strategy.
- Collaborate with the senior management team to advance departmental and agency objectives.
- Facilitate participation in development activities among board and non-development staff members.
- Develop strategies in coordination with the Chief Strategy Officer (CSO) to support short- and long-term fundraising priorities, campaigns, and programmatic needs.
- Track and evaluate the effectiveness of fundraising efforts to meet budgeted revenue targets and strategic goals and implement an annual evaluation process to inform future strategies and objectives.
- Implement systematic efforts to identify, solicit, steward, retain, and upgrade annual giving donors, and work closely with the CSO to cultivate major individual, corporate, and foundation donor prospects.
- Lead development projects and events, providing strategic guidance and support to the Development Manager.
- Provide oversight and direction to the agency's Development Associate responsible for grant writing, including guidance on foundation strategy and alignment with broader fundraising priorities.
- Help strengthen AgeSpan's culture of philanthropy by building fundraising systems, processes, and internal partnerships that support long-term growth.
- Represent the agency at special events and outreach activities as necessary.
- Keep current on fundraising best practices, trends, and innovations.
- Assist in budget preparation and monitor overall departmental revenue and expenses in close collaboration with the agency's Fiscal team.
- Oversee the agency's donor database/CRM to support accurate recordkeeping, reporting, prospect tracking, and informed fundraising strategy; and
- Assuming other duties as assigned.
Qualifications:- A minimum of a Bachelor's Degree and 5 years' development experience are required. A demonstrated track record of increasing responsibility, fundraising success, and experience helping to shape development strategy strongly preferred.
- Experience with database oversight, reporting, and communicating development-related data to a broad audience required.
- Experience and/or passion for working with the older adult community preferred.
- Exemplary goal setting, planning, and prioritization skills. Highly organized, thoughtful, and strategic, with the ability to communicate the value of development both internally and externally.
- Effective communication skills include strong writing skills, experience in donor communications, and a solid understanding of the technology needed to manage development efforts.
- Demonstrated ability to build relationships across a broad range of constituencies and stakeholders and to earn trust through authenticity, sound judgment, and follow-through.
- Skilled at cultivating relationships and guiding staff and board members in doing the same.
- Experience in or substantial knowledge of the private, nonprofit sector is a plus.
- Knowledge of the Merrimack Valley and North Shore regions of Massachusetts is a plus.
Hours: 37.5 per week
At AgeSpan, we carefully consider a wide range of factors when determining rate of pay. Actual rate of pay depends on factors including but not limited to internal equity, experience, and qualifications. The pay range for this position is $123,000 - $133,000/year.
