Director of Customs Brokerage

We are launching a dedicated, highly specialized internal Customs Brokerage organization designed to elevate the way we support our internal teams, serve our customers, and scale our customs capabilities for the future. This new structure will bring together Customs professionals across two regional teams, supporting the East and the West, each team led by a manager who will report to the Director of Customs Brokerage. In this critical leadership role, the Director will set the vision, build operational consistency, strengthen compliance and service standards, and develop a high-performing team positioned to deliver expert guidance, responsive support, and best-in-class customs brokerage solutions across the business.

How you will be successful....
• Lead Customs Brokerage Operations: Provide strategic direction and operational oversight for customs brokerage and Partner Government Agency (PGA) activities, ensuring compliance, service excellence, and alignment with Green's business objectives.
• Drive Performance & Accountability: Establish and monitor operational KPIs, including entry timeliness, accuracy, service levels, and grid performance. Hold teams accountable for results and implement continuous improvement initiatives.
• Develop & Lead Talent: Build, coach, and develop high-performing customs brokerage teams. Ensure appropriate staffing, training, succession planning, and professional development to support business growth and evolving regulatory requirements.
• Champion Process Improvement: Evaluate and optimize customs brokerage processes, technology, and workflows to improve efficiency, reduce risk, and enhance the client experience.
• Ensure Regulatory Compliance: Maintain oversight of customs and PGA compliance, including classification, valuation, tariff applicability, free trade agreement eligibility, import/export restrictions, and ACE-ABI messaging.
• Provide Technical Expertise: Serve as a senior subject matter expert on customs and PGA matters, supporting branch management, business development, and operational teams in resolving complex issues and identifying opportunities.
• Lead Root Cause Analysis: Oversee investigations into errors, inaccuracies, delays, and compliance concerns. Establish corrective action plans, ensure accountability, and implement preventive measures to minimize recurrence.
• Establish Client Standards: Direct the development, implementation, and maintenance of client-specific Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) for customs and PGA activities.
• Strengthen Client Relationships: Partner with internal stakeholders and clients to address service concerns, resolve complex issues, and identify opportunities to improve customer satisfaction and retention.
• Support Business Growth: Collaborate with senior leadership and business development teams to evaluate new business opportunities, assess operational capabilities, and support the expansion of customs brokerage services.
• Represent Green Externally: Participate in customs brokerage associations, industry seminars, Customs roundtables, port days, and other professional forums to strengthen industry relationships and maintain current knowledge of regulatory and market developments.
• Promote Continuous Learning: Champion a culture of professional development, innovation, knowledge sharing, and continuous improvement across the customs brokerage organization.

Work Environment:

Required Qualifications

• Extensive knowledge of ACE-ABI messaging, customs entry processes, and complex problem-solving.
• Strong understanding of customs compliance, tariff classification, valuation, trade agreements, and PGA requirements.
• Proficiency in Microsoft Office, including Outlook, Excel, and Word.
• Exceptional attention to detail, analytical skills, and written and oral communication abilities.

Preferred Qualifications:
• Licensed Customs Broker
• Certified Customs Specialist (NCBFAA) designation.
• Working knowledge of ACE Portal and ACE reporting functions.
• Experience developing and implementing client SOPs and operational performance metrics.
• Experience supporting business development, client retention, or organizational growth initiatives.
• Cargowise Experience
• Participation in customs brokerage industry associations and professional development programs.
