Director of Construction

The Director of Construction is responsible for leading the overall construction program, ensuring efficiency, quality, and compliance while managing staff performance and trade partner relationships.

Your Responsibilities on the Team
  • Lead, coach, mentor, and manage construction teams, site supervisors, and trade partners to optimize performance, improve workflow efficiency, and implement solutions that enhance build quality, cost-effectiveness, and overall organizational success.
  • Manage and direct all aspects of construction operations, adapting approaches across product types, permitting authorities, and customer segments.
  • Maintain systems and approval workflows to enhance customer satisfaction and trade partner experience by ensuring efficient processes, clear communication, and superior overall service delivery.
  • Implement procedures and systems to drive consistent in-process and finished product quality, utilizing a Quality Inspection program to measure achievement, and ensuring Construction Managers build zero-defect homes before they go to Quality Assurance.
  • Optimize construction schedules and trade partner efficiencies to minimize delays and maximize job readiness, ensuring timely home completions at 100% completion.
  • Anticipate and address delays due to Code Enforcement jurisdictions, internal land development schedules, and third-party developer behaviors by proactively identifying potential issues, developing workarounds, and collaborating closely with land development teams to prevent recurring obstacles. Strengthen partnerships with County officials to improve coordination and expedite approvals.
  • Develop and manage cost control procedures to track and predict cost variances related to site conditions and trade partner performance.
  • Provide performance data and report issues to the Purchasing Department to improve material forecasting and trade partner effectiveness.
  • Ensure compliance with City or County requirements, building codes, and Lennar's Stormwater Management policies and procedures.
  • Conduct research on how other homebuilders manage staffing forecasts and consider the HR model to optimize workforce planning. Take responsibility for forecasting staffing levels and ensuring appropriate recruitment strategies are in place.
  • Foster strong communication between construction and customer care teams to proactively resolve issues, ensure quality home production, and implement procedures for a smooth handoff of completed homes, providing support as needed to address customer concerns.


Requirements
  • High School Diploma or equivalent required.
  • Bachelor's degree in a related field preferred.
  • Minimum of 7+ years of experience in construction management, with at least 5 years in a leadership role.
  • Strong knowledge of scheduling, budgeting, cost management, and document control.
  • Demonstrated ability to lead and develop high-performing teams.
  • Advanced knowledge of construction practices, building codes, and safety regulations.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office and construction management software.
  • Exceptional communication, time management, and problem-solving skills.
  • Valid driver's license with a good driving record.
  • Valid auto insurance coverage.
  • Ability to read and interpret blueprints.
  • Capable of managing multiple tasks and deadlines in a fast-paced environment.


Physical & Office/Site Presence Requirements:

Regular, in-person attendance at Company communities/job sites and offices during regular work hours is an essential function of this job. Requires the ability to work more than eight hours per day in the confined quarters of a construction trailer, the ability to operate a motor vehicle, read plans, climb stairs and ladders, bend, stoop, reach, lift, move and/or carry equipment which may be in excess of 50 pounds. Job may require occasional operation of construction equipment. Finger dexterity may be required to operate a computer keyboard and calculator.
