Director of Community ImpactThe Director, Community Impact develops and delivers Aon's community impact strategy. They advance efforts that improve communities, engage colleagues, and support the firm's purpose of crafting better decisions to protect and enrich lives worldwide.
This role leads Aon's approach to charitable investments, community collaborations, colleague involvement, and volunteerism. The Director partners across the enterprise to align community impact efforts with business priorities, talent strategies, client relationships, and Aon's commitment to fostering economic opportunity and community resilience.
Serving as a strategic advisor and connector, the Director works with senior leaders, market leaders, BRG leaders, People Org leaders, Communications, Legal, and external partners. The Director aims to improve social impact, increase colleague engagement, and strengthen Aon's reputation in the communities where colleagues live and work. This role will be based in our Chicago office.
What The Day Will Look LikeCommunity Impact Leadership- Lead the execution and day-to-day management of Aon's community impact, philanthropy, sponsorship, and colleague engagement programs.
- Operationalize enterprise community impact priorities through effective program management, participant coordination, governance, budgeting, and reporting.
- Be responsible for charitable giving requests, sponsorships, and community partnerships to ensure alignment with organizational priorities and available resources.
- Support senior leaders in advancing community engagement initiatives that strengthen colleague engagement, community relationships, and business objectives.
- Drive continuous improvement through process enhancements, impact measurement, and scalable tools and resources.
Charitable Investments & Strategic Partnerships- Serve as a trusted advisor and key resource to executive leaders, industry frontrunners, and business collaborators on philanthropy, sponsorships, and community engagement.
- Provide recommendations on funding opportunities and community investments, balancing community need, business alignment, colleague engagement, and reputational considerations.
- Build and maintain relationships with nonprofit, civic, educational, and community leaders across key markets.
- Guide investments that support workforce development, economic opportunity, education, financial well-being, and community resilience.
Colleague Engagement & Volunteerism- Lead enterprise and market-based volunteer programs that enable colleagues to give their time, talent, and expertise in support of community priorities.
- Develop and implement volunteer campaigns, service initiatives, and skills-based engagement opportunities.
- Partner with Business Resource Groups (BRGs), market leaders, and business partners to increase participation and strengthen community impact.
- Support colleague engagement efforts that reinforce Aon's culture, values, and commitment to making a positive impact.
Communications & Community Storytelling- Lead internal and external storytelling efforts that showcase Aon's community impact, nonprofit partnerships, colleague engagement, and philanthropic investments.
- Lead the development of Aon's annual Impact Report, including data collection, content development, partner engagement, and project management.
- Partner with Communications, Marketing, and business leaders to develop executive communications, presentations, impact reports, thought leadership, and recognition opportunities.
- Collect and communicate impact data, success stories, and colleague experiences to strengthen awareness, engagement, and organizational reputation.
Cross-Functional Leadership, Governance & Reporting- Lead collaboration across Human Resources, Communications, Marketing, Legal, business units, market teams, and external collaborators.
- Influence and align diverse partners to advance community impact priorities across the enterprise.
- Develop and maintain reporting frameworks, dashboards, and executive updates that measure community impact, colleague participation, and investment outcomes.
- Ensure appropriate governance, compliance, risk management, and stewardship of philanthropic resources and community investments.
Team Leadership- Lead and develop a high-performing Community Impact team of three professionals responsible for philanthropy, colleague engagement, volunteerism, sponsorships, and community partnerships.
- Foster a culture of accountability, collaboration, innovation, and exceptional client service.
- Provide coaching, development, and strategic direction while empowering team members to independently lead key programs, relationships, and initiatives.
- Effectively prioritize resources and workload to improve impact across a diverse portfolio of enterprise and market-focused activities.
Experience That Will Lead To Success- 10+ years of experience in community impact, corporate citizenship, corporate social responsibility, philanthropy, employee engagement, nonprofit leadership, or related fields.
- Experience leading charitable investments, sponsorships, volunteer engagement programs, and strategic nonprofit partnerships.
- Strong understanding of workforce development, economic opportunity, education, civic engagement, and community resilience initiatives.
- Validated ability to influence senior leaders and build alignment across complex stakeholder groups.
- Experience working across geographically dispersed teams and market-based operating environments.
- Strong analytical, communication, relationship management, and strategic planning skills.
- Experience presenting to executive leadership and representing an organization with external stakeholders.
- Demonstrated commitment to advancing community outcomes while enhancing colleague engagement and organizational impact.
