Job SummaryShape the standard for exceptional events in the heart of Los Angeles. As Director of Banquets at the Los Angeles Convention Center, you will lead the strategic planning, execution, and continuous improvement of all banquet operations. From high-profile galas to large-scale conventions, you will oversee every detail-ensuring consistency, excellence, and innovation in service delivery. With a deep understanding of large-event logistics, you'll manage a high-performing banquet team while collaborating closely with sales, culinary, and operations to drive memorable guest experiences and maximize revenue.
Key Responsibilities: Provide strategic leadership and vision for all banquet operations across multiple event spaces
Lead, mentor, and develop banquet managers, captains, and service teams to deliver high-touch service and operational excellence
Partner with sales and culinary teams to ensure seamless planning and execution of events
Oversee scheduling, labor forecasting, and cost control to align with event needs and budget goals
Monitor event execution, guest satisfaction, and post-event feedback to drive continuous improvement
Maintain compliance with all health, safety, and alcohol service regulations
Effectively manage union labor in accordance with collective bargaining agreements, ensuring compliance and productive working relationships
Create and implement SOPs and training programs to uphold brand standards and consistency
Drive revenue growth by optimizing banquet services, menus, and upselling opportunities
Serve as the primary liaison for high-profile clients and VIP events
Analyze performance metrics and implement operational improvements as needed
Preferred Qualifications:Minimum 5-7 years of progressive leadership experience in banquet or catering management, preferably in a convention center or high-volume environment
Proven success managing large teams and complex, multi-day events
Oversee scheduling, training, and leadership of banquet staff
Excellent communication, interpersonal, and client service skills
Proficiency in event management, scheduling, and banquet software
Strong knowledge of banquet service styles, floor plans, and staffing logistics
Experience working in a unionized environment
Ability to thrive under pressure and manage multiple events simultaneously
