Job Duties

The Office of Governor Abigail Spanberger is seeking a Director of Cabinet Affairs.

The Director of Cabinet Affairs will collaborate across all of Virginia's Secretariats to coordinate proactive messaging opportunities for high-level government officials. The Director of Cabinet Affairs will serve as a core member of the Governor's Office and report to the Deputy Chief of Staff. This is a full-time At-Will position appointed by the Governor of Virginia, based in Richmond, Virginia.
This position will:
• Work with cabinet secretaries and their teams across the administration to coordinate their engagement with the governor's office on announcements, policy roll-outs, and events
• Facilitate communication both from the governor's office to cabinet members, and vice versa
• Develop talking points, briefing materials, memos, and other internal communications products as needed
• Be responsible for devising proactive communications strategies and initiatives
• Organize coordinated travel and events across the Commonwealth
• Develop short and long-term messaging opportunities
• Track success using key metrics
• Remain flexible to adjust as needed
• Perform all other duties as assigned

Minimum Qualifications
• At least 10 years of experience in government or public relations
• Strong project management skills
• Ability to plan well into the future while also pivoting quickly when needed
• Experience staffing high-level government officials
• Experience with policy communications and distilling complex policy information into clear, compelling messaging for a variety of audiences
