Overview

The Events Platform organization builds the technology that powers Microsoft's global event experiences. As platform capabilities continue to evolve, success depends on more than delivering technology-it requires ensuring new capabilities are clearly understood, consistently adopted, and effectively integrated into how the business operates.

The Director of Business Program Management partners across Engineering, Product, Marketing, and Business teams to connect technical execution with business outcomes. This role drives cross-functional alignment, enables organizational readiness, and develops scalable approaches for communicating, adopting, and operationalizing platform capabilities.

Working closely with engineering leaders, the BPM helps translate complex technical initiatives into predictable, consumable experiences for internal stakeholders while establishing repeatable mechanisms that improve collaboration, accelerate adoption, and create continuous feedback between engineering and the business.

Responsibilities

Platform Strategy & Business Alignment
• Partner with Engineering, Product Management, Architecture, and Business stakeholders to define strategic priorities, quarterly plans, and release objectives.
• Translate business priorities into actionable engineering programs, milestones, and execution plans.
• Connect platform investments to measurable business outcomes by aligning technical execution with organizational priorities.
• Drive prioritization discussions that balance business value, engineering capacity, and platform strategy.

Cross-Functional Program Leadership
• Lead complex cross-functional initiatives spanning Engineering, Product, Marketing, Operations, Data, and partner organizations.
• Coordinate planning, dependencies, milestones, and execution across multiple teams.
• Facilitate roadmap reviews, planning sessions, release readiness, and stakeholder alignment meetings.
• Identify risks, remove blockers, and drive alignment across competing priorities to ensure successful program delivery.

Business Adoption & Organizational Readiness
• Develop scalable approaches for introducing new platform capabilities across the organization.
• Partner with stakeholders to ensure new technical capabilities are understood, adopted, and operationalized successfully.
• Drive organizational readiness through communications, implementation planning, and stakeholder engagement.
• Capture business feedback and partner with engineering teams to continuously improve platform capabilities and user experience.

Executive Communications & Stakeholder Engagement
• Prepare executive-ready updates, dashboards, business reviews, and strategic communications.
• Communicate program health, milestones, dependencies, risks, and key decisions to leadership.
• Develop clear narratives that connect technical execution with business outcomes.
• Drive effective governance through meeting facilitation, action tracking, decision logs, and follow-up communications.

Operational Excellence & Platform Enablement
• Analyze existing workflows and identify opportunities to simplify processes, improve scalability, and increase operational efficiency.
• Document operating models, end-to-end processes, roles, responsibilities, and governance mechanisms.
• Develop repeatable frameworks that improve how platform capabilities are communicated, adopted, and supported across the organization.
• Drive continuous improvement initiatives that increase delivery predictability and organizational effectiveness.

Engineering Partnership & Program Execution
• Partner closely with Engineering and Architecture teams to understand technical dependencies, system integrations, and platform constraints.
• Support roadmap planning, release sequencing, and implementation readiness.
• Ensure execution plans are aligned with architecture, security, compliance, reliability, and scalability objectives.
• Support data-driven decision making through program metrics, telemetry, and operational insights.

Qualifications

Required/minimum qualifications

  • Bachelor's Degree in Business, Program Management, Technical Program Management, Product Operations, Engineering Program Management, Operations, Finance, or related field AND 8+ years experience in program management, process management, or process improvement
    • OR equivalent experience.


Additional or preferred qualifications
  • Master's Degree in Business, Program Management, Technical Program Management, Product Operations, Engineering Program Management, Operations, Finance or related field AND 12+ years experience in program management, process management, or process improvement
    • OR Bachelor's Degree in Business, Operations, Finance, or related field AND 15+ years experience in program management, process management, or process improvement
    • OR equivalent experience.
  • Experience leading complex cross-functional initiatives involving Engineering, Product, Marketing, Operations, or Business organizations.
  • Expertise in program planning, stakeholder management, dependency management, and cross-functional execution.
  • Experience working with Agile methodologies and engineering execution processes.
  • Exceptional written, verbal, and executive communication skills.
  • Ability to influence without direct authority and build alignment across diverse organizations.
  • Experience supporting cloud platforms, event technology, marketing technology, enterprise applications, or large-scale digital experiences.
  • Familiarity with Azure, APIs, integrations, data platforms, analytics, and reporting solutions.
  • Experience developing operating models, governance frameworks, or organizational rhythms of business.
  • Experience driving organizational readiness, adoption, or business enablement for technical initiatives.
  • Experience creating executive communications, business reviews, and leadership presentations.


Business Program Management IC6 - The typical base pay range for this role across the U.S. is USD $130,900 - $277,200 per year. There is a different range applicable to specific work locations, within the San Francisco Bay area and New York City metropolitan area, and the base pay range for this role in those locations is USD $165,600 - $303,600 per year.
