Job Description:

SUNY Schenectady County Community College seeks applicants for the position of Director of Business Operations in the Administration and Finance Department. The Director reports directly to, and works closely with, the Vice President of Administration & Finance to fulfill the responsibilities of the position. The Director is responsible for supervision of accounts payable (AP), general ledger (GL), cash management and payroll. The responsibilities include the preparation of the College's financial statements, reports for internal and external constituencies, while complying with general accepted accounting principles and federal, state, local laws, regulations and policies; as well as College policies and procedures. This is a professional (unrepresented), 12-month position.

Supervisory Responsibility:

Manages a staff of 5 covering AP, payroll and GL.

Responsibilities:

The Director of Business Operations directs and supervises the receipt, expenditure and safekeeping of funds and assets by performing the following duties personally or through direct reports:
  • Drafts, interprets and implements college policies and procedures. Creates clear and informative documents to ensure policies and procedures are followed.
  • Ensure all college economic resource expenditures are in compliance in accordance with rules, regulations, and other mandates of the College's Board of Trustees, the County of Schenectady, the State University of New York and the United States Government.
  • Advise management on operational matters to ensure compliance with federal, state, local codes, union agreements and regulations.
  • Arranges for and serves as the college's liaison for audits of the college's official records, general ledger, financial statements and accounts.
  • Liaise with procurement leads once selection is made to ensure bid instructions and contractual terms are followed.
  • Prepares reports required by regulatory agencies and executive management, to include all tax compliance reporting and documents.
  • Provides management with fiscal reports on the college's programs and activities.
  • Ensures the integrity and security of the college's financial ERP system in concert with the technology staff. Implements related ERP upgrades and modifications.
  • Oversees and monitors expenditures to assure compliance within the approved budget allocations.
  • Works closely with the Executive Director, Sponsored Programs and grant managers on expenditures and reporting.
  • Supervises the payroll, accounts payable and general ledger staff and problems solves with them.
  • Works closely with Student Financial Services in regards to Financial Aid draw downs.
  • Serve as a key member of the Administrative Services reporting team and cover for other team members as needed.
  • Serve as a financial resource for the campus community.
  • Perform job related duties as assigned.

Requirements:

Minimum Qualifications:
  • Bachelor's degree in accounting or business administration.
  • Minimum of seven years of experience in finance and accounting.
  • Minimum of five years of experience in a managerial level position with supervisory responsibility for a complex financial operation.

Preferred Qualifications:
  • Master's degree in a related finance or business field.
  • Experience with Ellucian/Banner enterprise financial systems.
  • Certified as a Public Accountant (CPA), Financial Analyst (CFA), and/or Management Accountant (CMA).
