Job Description:

The Director of Business Development serves as a key member of the ASU Health Strategy and Business Development team and is responsible for identifying, cultivating and advancing select strategic partnerships to accelerate the mission and growth of ASU Health. Working collaboratively across ASU Health and the broader University, the Director develops relationships with healthcare providers, industry partners, government agencies, community organizations and other stakeholders to support priority initiatives.

The Director manages a portfolio of strategic partnerships from opportunity identification through implementation, coordinates engagement across ASU colleges and business units and supports the development of processes, metrics and reporting to monitor and enhance partnership status, performance and organizational impact. This position requires exceptional relationship management, strategic thinking, project coordination and the ability to navigate a highly matrixed environment.

The Director reports to the Vice President, Strategy and Business Development, ASU Health.

Position Salary Range:

$117,100 - $125,000 per year; DOE

Essential Duties:

Strategic Partnership Development

  • Identify, evaluate and cultivate strategic partnership opportunities aligned with ASU Health's strategic priorities.

  • Develop and maintain relationships with select healthcare systems, providers, payers, life sciences companies, technology organizations, government agencies, employers, foundations, and community organizations.

  • Assess partnership opportunities for strategic alignment, organizational readiness, financial sustainability, and long-term impact.

  • Support the development of partnership strategies, business cases, memoranda of understanding and similar collaboration frameworks.

  • Coordinate internal and external stakeholders throughout the partnership development lifecycle.

Relationship Management

  • Serve as a primary relationship manager for an assigned portfolio of strategic partners.

  • Build trusted relationships with executive leaders and key stakeholders across partner organizations.

  • Facilitate regular communication, governance meetings and executive briefings to strengthen strategic collaborations.

  • Identify opportunities to expand existing partnerships and maximize mutual value.

Internal Coordination and Cross-University Engagement

  • Navigate ASU's organizational structure to connect partners with appropriate faculty, research centers, colleges, institutes and relevant business units.

  • Coordinate and convene cross-functional teams supporting partnership development and implementation.

  • Foster collaboration among ASU Health leadership, academic units, Knowledge Enterprise, Office of General Counsel, Finance, Marketing and Communications, Brand, Office of Government & Community Engagement and other university business units.

  • Serve as a central point of coordination for select partnership to ensure activities are aligned, efficient and well communicated.

Portfolio Management and Reporting

  • Develop and maintain a comprehensive partnership pipeline and active partnership portfolio with input from the ASU Health leadership team.

  • Establish metrics and key performance indicators to evaluate partnership activity, progress, financial impact, outcomes and strategic value creation.

  • Support and maintain dashboards, reports and presentations for ASU Health and ASU Executive leadership relative to partnership activity.

  • Monitor milestones, deliverables, risks and partnership health throughout the lifecycle of strategic initiatives.

Strategic Planning and Business Development

  • Conduct environmental scanning and market research to identify emerging opportunities, competitive trends and potential collaborators.

  • Support (and in select cases, lead) due diligence activities regarding potential partnerships, joint ventures and strategic collaborations.

  • Participate in development of ASU Health strategic initiatives that advance education, research, clinical innovation, workforce development and community impact – focusing on the role and value creation of external partnerships.

  • Represent ASU Health at conferences, industry meetings and networking events to expand strategic relationships and identify new opportunities.

Operational Excellence

  • Co-develop standardized tools, workflows and governance processes for partnership development and management.

  • Support the development of an ASU Health CRM and partnership management platform, including integration with Salesforce, to ensure accurate documentation and reporting.

  • Ensure timely follow-up on partnership opportunities and commitments.

  • Collaborate with Office of General Counsel, Finance, Knowledge Enterprise, Academic Enterprise (including Office of the Provost and individual colleges and schools), EdPlus and other ASU business units to facilitate partnership execution.

Desired Qualifications:

  • Master's degree in Business Administration (MBA), Healthcare Administration (MHA), Public Administration (MPA), Public Health (MPH) or related field.

  • Experience within an academic medical center, health system, university or healthcare innovation environment.

  • Knowledge of healthcare delivery, academic medicine, research or health technology ecosystems.

  • Experience with CRM systems (e.g., SalesForce), portfolio management and executive dashboards.

This position operates in a dynamic, collaborative environment requiring frequent interaction with university leadership, healthcare executives, faculty and external stakeholders. Periodic local, regional and national travel may be required to support strategic partnership development and relationship management.
