Job DescriptionThe Division of Hematology and Medical Oncology at the Icahn School of Medicine at Mount Sinai is seeking an accomplished physician-scientist to serve as Director of Benign Hematology Clinical Research. This is a distinctive leadership opportunity for an individual with a strong record in benign hematology clinical care and research to build and direct a comprehensive clinical research program addressing non-malignant blood disorders with a focus on coagulation, bleeding and thrombosis, leveraging Mount Sinai's excellence in clinical care as an HHS-funded Hemophilia Treatment Center, and complementing existing NIH-funded clinical and translational research programs in sickle cell disease, iron disorders, myeloproliferative disorders, and graft-vs-host disease.
ResponsibilitiesAbout the RoleThe Director will provide strategic and operational leadership for clinical research in benign hematology, in close partnership with divisional and departmental leadership. This individual will:
- Design, launch, and oversee a robust clinical trials portfolio spanning disorders such as bleeding and clotting disorders, bone marrow failure syndromes, and other non-malignant hematologic conditions (with the exception of other funded programs such as sickle cell disease)
- Recruit, mentor, and develop junior faculty, fellows, and research staff engaged in benign hematology research
- Secure and manage extramural funding, including NIH, foundation, and industry-sponsored support
- Collaborate with basic and translational scientists to advance mechanistic understanding and novel therapeutics for benign blood disorders
- Partner with the Division's malignant hematology, oncology, and transplant programs, as well as pediatric hematology, to build cohesive, cross-cutting research initiatives
- Maintain an active clinical practice caring for patients with benign hematologic disease
- Contribute to the education and training of medical students, residents, and fellows
- Represent Mount Sinai in national and international benign hematology research consortia and professional societies
QualificationsWe are seeking candidates with:- MD or MD/PhD with current board certification/eligibility in Hematology
- A distinguished record of clinical and translational research in benign hematology
- Demonstrated leadership experience directing or co-directing a clinical research program, clinical trials unit, or comparable initiative
- A strong publication record and national or international reputation in the field of non-malignant hematologic disorders
- Experience building multidisciplinary collaborations and mentoring early-career investigators
- Eligibility for a faculty appointment at the Icahn School of Medicine at Mount Sinai at a rank commensurate with experience
- A sustained record of extramural funding and/or leadership in sponsored multicenter trials is desirable
Reporting RelationshipThis position reports directly to the Chief, Division of Hematology and Medical Oncology, Mount Sinai Health System, and also to the Head, Section of Hematology.
Compensation and BenefitsSalary and startup package will be highly competitive and commensurate with experience and academic accomplishment. Mount Sinai offers a comprehensive benefits package and substantial institutional support for research.
The salary range is from 375K to 475K (not including bonuses / incentive compensation or benefits) depending upon experience rank.
