Job Description:

Albany Technical College is seeking a highly qualified, experienced, collaborative, and student-centered nursing education leader to serve as the Director of the Associate of Science in Nursing (ASN) Program.

The ASN Program Director provides academic, administrative, and operational leadership for the College's Associate of Science in Nursing program, including applicable generic and bridge program options offered at designated locations. The Director is responsible for the overall development, administration, planning, implementation, evaluation, and continuous improvement of the nursing education program.

Serving as the immediate supervisor of assigned nursing faculty, the Director provides leadership in curriculum and instruction, faculty development and evaluation, student success, accreditation and regulatory compliance, systematic program evaluation, scheduling and capacity planning, resource management, budget oversight, clinical education partnerships, community engagement, and strategic program development.

The Director works collaboratively with the Dean of Academic Affairs for Nursing & Allied Health Sciences, faculty, College leadership, clinical partners, and other stakeholders to ensure program quality, regulatory and accreditation readiness, responsible stewardship of resources, and achievement of institutional and program outcomes.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

Program Leadership, Administration, and Academic Oversight

The Director will:
  • Provide overall leadership, administration, coordination, and evaluation of the ASN program, including applicable broad and bridge program options.
  • Plan, implement, evaluate, and continuously improve the nursing program in alignment with institutional requirements, established program outcomes, regulatory expectations, accreditation standards and criteria, and workforce needs.
  • Ensure effective delivery and coordination of classroom, laboratory, simulation, and clinical learning experiences.
  • Oversee the development, maintenance, coordination, and revision of program and course schedules to support student progression and the effective utilization of faculty, facilities, clinical placements, and instructional resources.
  • Participate in enrollment, cohort, faculty, clinical placement, and instructional capacity planning to support responsible program growth, program quality, and student success.
  • Ensure instructional materials, course documents, lesson plans, syllabi, and supplementary resources remain current and consistent with applicable TCSG program standards, College requirements, regulatory expectations, and accreditation standards.
  • Monitor instructional quality, teaching methodologies, student learning, and achievement of established program and course outcomes.
  • Identify and recommend appropriate instructional, clinical, simulation, technological, equipment, personnel, and other resources necessary for effective program operation.
  • Make recommendations to the Dean regarding program staffing, scheduling, resources, curriculum, operational needs, and strategic initiatives.


Accreditation, Regulatory Compliance, and Program Effectiveness
  • Provide leadership for maintaining program compliance with applicable Georgia Board of Nursing (GBON) requirements, Accreditation Commission for Education in Nursing (ACEN) standards and criteria, TCSG program standards, College policies and procedures, and other applicable regulatory and accreditation requirements.
  • Coordinate and support accreditation and regulatory activities, including continuing accreditation processes, program evaluation, collection and analysis of program data, preparation of required reports and documentation, and implementation of continuous improvement initiatives.
  • Maintain ongoing readiness for applicable accreditation, regulatory, institutional, and program reviews.
  • Coordinate the systematic collection, review, evaluation, and use of program data and outcomes to support evidence-based decision-making and continuous program improvement.
  • Maintain, review, and help ensure the accuracy and currency of required program records and reports, including student grades, attendance, work ethics, progression, completion, certification and licensure outcomes, and other required performance indicators.
  • Ensure required program reports, accreditation documentation, regulatory submissions, assessments, and institutional documentation are completed accurately and within established timelines.
  • Monitor program and student achievement outcomes and coordinate appropriate improvement strategies when opportunities or concerns are identified.
  • Promptly communicate significant accreditation, regulatory, personnel, student, instructional, clinical, or operational concerns through the appropriate administrative channels.


Faculty Leadership, Supervision, and Development
  • Serve as the immediate supervisor of assigned ASN faculty and provide leadership that promotes accountability, collaboration, professionalism, instructional excellence, and student success.
  • Participate in the recruitment, interviewing, selection, onboarding, and orientation of nursing faculty and other assigned personnel in collaboration with the Dean, Human Resources, and other appropriate College personnel.
  • Assist in ensuring assigned faculty maintain appropriate academic qualifications, professional licensure, credentials, certifications, and other requirements applicable to their assigned responsibilities.
  • Participate in faculty workload, instructional assignment, clinical assignment, and scheduling decisions in collaboration with the Dean and in accordance with College requirements.
  • Support faculty professional development and provide coaching, consultation, mentoring, and appropriate guidance regarding instructional effectiveness, student success, program expectations, and professional responsibilities.
  • Conduct and document faculty classroom and instructional observations and performance evaluations, including applicable mid-year and annual performance reviews, in accordance with College policies and procedures.
  • Facilitate effective communication among program faculty and promote consistent implementation of program, Academic Affairs, College, regulatory, and accreditation expectations.
  • Promote a professional environment that supports teamwork, mutual accountability, faculty engagement, innovation, continuous improvement, and educational excellence.
  • Address routine faculty and program operational matters within the scope of assigned authority and appropriately elevate matters requiring additional administrative review or action.


Student Success and Program Outcomes
  • Foster an academic environment focused on student learning, engagement, persistence, retention, progression, graduation, licensure readiness, and workforce success.
  • Collaborate with faculty and appropriate College departments to identify barriers to student achievement and implement appropriate academic, progression, and retention strategies.
  • Monitor applicable program outcomes, student achievement data, licensure results, completion trends, and other relevant performance measures.
  • Use program and student outcome data to inform recommendations, interventions, resource decisions, and continuous improvement initiatives.
  • Support the appropriate, equitable, and consistent implementation of academic standards, program policies, progression requirements, and College expectations.
  • Collaborate with appropriate College personnel to support student recruitment, orientation, advising, retention, completion, and transition to employment or continued education, as applicable.


Clinical Education and Healthcare Partnerships
  • Collaborate with College leadership, nursing faculty, and appropriate personnel to develop and maintain sufficient clinical education partnerships and student learning experiences necessary to support program enrollment, progression, and achievement of program outcomes.
  • Maintain productive professional relationships with hospitals, healthcare organizations, clinical agencies, employers, and community partners.
  • Participate in planning and evaluation related to clinical capacity, clinical placement needs, and the effectiveness of student clinical learning experiences.
  • Communicate and collaborate with clinical partners regarding program needs, expectations, opportunities, and concerns through established College processes.
  • Identify opportunities to strengthen partnerships that support clinical education, student success, graduate employment, workforce development, and the long-term sustainability of the nursing program.


Budget and Resource Management
  • Develop, monitor, and manage the assigned department budget in alignment with Academic Affairs expectations, College Business Office requirements, TCSG policies and procedures, and applicable institutional requirements.
  • Exercise responsible stewardship and promote effective utilization of personnel, instructional supplies, clinical resources, simulation equipment, technology, facilities, and other program resources.
  • Participate in planning for program equipment, instructional resources, staffing, facilities, technology, simulation, and other operational needs.
  • Identify current and anticipated resource needs and provide recommendations to the Dean to support program quality, compliance, sustainability, and responsible growth.


Institutional Leadership, Community Engagement, and Partnerships
  • Participate actively in administrative and academic leadership meetings with the Dean, fellow program directors, faculty, College leadership, and other personnel as appropriate.
  • Collaborate with Academic Affairs leadership and other College departments on institutional priorities, strategic initiatives, student success efforts, and organizational goals.
  • Participate in community engagement, employer relations, healthcare partnerships, workforce development efforts, and other collaborative opportunities that advance the nursing program and support regional healthcare workforce needs.
  • Represent the ASN program and Albany Technical College professionally with students, employees, clinical partners, healthcare organizations, community stakeholders, regulatory and accrediting organizations, and other external constituencies.
  • Coordinate departmental Advisory Committee meetings at least twice annually, including appropriate preparation, documentation, communication, and follow-up.
  • Participate in College marketing, recruitment, enrollment, and retention initiatives as appropriate and consistent with institutional expectations.
  • Attend meetings, events, professional activities, and community engagements associated with the position and the advancement of the nursing program.


Additional Responsibilities
  • Maintain professional competence and remain current regarding nursing practice, nursing education, instructional methodologies, accreditation standards, regulatory requirements, technology, and trends affecting healthcare and nursing education.
  • Participate in applicable professional development and institutional activities.
  • Maintain appropriate confidentiality and exercise sound professional judgment when handling student, personnel, academic, clinical, and institutional matters.
  • Complete required reports, records, documentation, and administrative responsibilities accurately and within established timelines.
  • Support College and Academic Affairs initiatives consistent with the responsibilities of the position.
  • Perform other duties consistent with the scope, level, and responsibilities of the position as assigned by the Dean or appropriate College leadership.


Minimum Qualifications

The successful candidate must meet the following minimum qualifications:
  • An earned master's degree in Nursing from an institutionally accredited college or university.
  • A minimum of three (3) years of teaching experience in an programmatically accredited nursing education program leading to initial registered nurse licensure or completion of a higher degree in nursing.
  • A current, active, and unencumbered Georgia Registered Nurse (RN) license.


Preferred Qualifications

In addition to meeting all minimum qualifications, highly qualified candidates may possess one or more of the following:
  • Previous experience serving as a nursing program director, program administrator, department chair, coordinator, or in a comparable accredited nursing education leadership role.
  • Previous experience with Georgia Board of Nursing regulatory requirements applicable to prelicensure registered nursing education.


Work Schedule and Conditions

Albany Technical College's nursing program offers day, evening, and weekend instructional and clinical experiences. Accordingly, the Program Director will be required to work outside the College's normal Monday through Friday, 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. schedule to meet program, student, faculty, clinical, accreditation, regulatory, institutional, or community partnership needs.
