Full Job Description
Job Summary:

The Director of Accounts Payable provides strategic leadership and oversight for the Accounts Payable function, ensuring alignment with the broader strategic objectives of SUNY Upstate Medical University. This role oversees a shared services operation supporting both University Hospital and Upstate Medical University.

The Director is responsible for driving operational efficiency and consistency across accounts payable, travel, and Research Foundation (RF) functions in accordance with SUNY, New York State, and institutional guidelines. The position ensures compliance with all applicable regulations and policies, including those of New York State, SUNY, the Research Foundation, and other governing agencies.

This role leads process improvement & automation initiatives, oversees accounts payable audits, and ensures timely resolution of vendor discrepancies. The Director collaborates extensively with Contract Administration, Hospital and Campus Purchasing, the Research Foundation, Supply Chain, Internal Audit, and financial operations across the institution.

Minimum Qualifications:

Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, Business Administration, or a related field and five (5) years of progressively responsible experience in accounts payable, finance, accounting, or related financial operations required. Minimum of three (3) years of supervisory or management experience required.

Preferred Qualifications:

Master's degree in Accounting, Finance, Business Administration, or a related field. Five (5) or more years of experience in a high-volume accounts payable environment. Experience with New York State, SUNY, and Research Foundation financial and operating systems. Demonstrated experience supervising and managing staff in a unionized environment.

Monday - Friday 8:00am-4:30pm
