Director of Academic AdvisingUSC Marshall School of BusinessUSC Leventhal School of AccountingThe USC Leventhal School of Accounting is seeking a full-time Director of Academic Advising. Reporting to the Executive Director, the Director will lead an Assistant Director and Associate Director to support students in Leventhal's Bachelor of Science in Accounting (ACCT), the Minor in Accounting, the joint Leventhal and Marshall Bachelor of Science in Accounting and Finance (ACFN), the Master of Accounting (MAcc), and Master of Business Taxation (MBT) programs.
Responsibilities and Duties- Lead and support the Academic Advising team, recruit/supervise student worker(s), and facilitate a collaborative, engaged, and inclusive team environment.
- Together with the Academic Advising team, provide support to Leventhal students. This includes but is not limited to meeting with students both in-person and virtually, updating course plans and informational resources, updating the website, reviewing and distributing communications, tracking student academic progress in the Advise USC platform, conducting GPA and graduation checks, providing guidance on CPA (Certified Public Accountant) eligibility, referring students to other resources as needed, etc. In collaboration with the Marshall Office of Undergraduate Advising & Student Affairs, participate in orientation sessions, register students for classes, assess applications for internal transfer, etc.
- In partnership with Leventhal and Marshall colleagues, design and execute a strategic plan that furthers the goals of Leventhal's academic mission: gather and assess feedback from students, alumni, faculty, staff and other constituents; implement and update information systems to collect data to identify trends and develop objectives.
- Liaise with multiple groups (e.g., students, faculty, alumni, employers, Leventhal advisory board members, Marshall and University personnel, colleagues from other institutions, representatives from accounting and other professional associations) to stay current on issues, trends, policies, and technologies that impact educational success, enrollments, student wellbeing, and the accounting profession.
- In collaboration with senior leaders, evaluate, update, and maintain curricula and class schedules that are in line with Leventhal's mission. Help construct the class schedule for each semester. Monitor and manage enrollments during registration periods.
- Present and provide updates as necessary to the Leventhal Dean, faculty, Board of Councilors, Marshall, and other entities.
- In partnership with the Executive Director, develop a budget. Monitor expenses and ensure the Academic Advising team remains in compliance with all expense and reimbursement guidelines.
- Performs other related duties as assigned or requested. The university reserves the right to add or change duties at any time.
Minimum Qualifications:- Bachelor's degree
- 5 years of experience
- Combined experience/education as substitute for minimum education
- Supervisory experience in student programs and services.
Preferred Qualifications:- Master's degree
- 7 years of experience
- Experience leading and supervising other full-time employees
- Problem solving skills
- High emotional intelligence
- Excellent oral and written communication skills
- Ability to maintain confidentiality and handle sensitive information
- Flexibility and responsiveness to the needs of the team, students, faculty, etc.
- Familiarity with accounting profession and industry
Anticipated Hiring Range:The salary range for this position is
$86,089.39 - $102,264.49 - $118,730.62.
