Full Job Description

ROLE SUMMARY

Obesity is one of the most exciting and dynamic areas in medicine today, and Pfizer's early obesity pipeline spans multiple mechanisms with the potential to help hundreds of millions of people living with obesity and its complications worldwide. The pace of scientific and competitive change in this space is unprecedented, creating a unique opportunity for a commercial leader to shape assets from their earliest stages.

The Director, Obesity Early Pipeline Commercial Development sits on the Obesity Global Commercial Strategy team within the Internal Medicine / Primary Care business unit, reporting to the Senior Director – Team Lead, Obesity Early Pipeline Commercial Development. The role is accountable for commercial development across a portfolio of early- and mid-stage assets spanning the chronic weight management treatment landscape. The Director owns commercial assessments end-to-end for covered programs — building product concepts and Target Product Profiles, developing disease-area strategies, and directing the integration of forecasting, pricing, HCP demand, future landscaping, and patient-flow insights into actionable commercial plans.

Operating as a cross-functional leader without direct line authority, the Director interprets business unit strategy to set priorities for covered programs, shapes early development strategy in partnership with R&D, advances assets through enterprise governance, and leads select strategic initiatives spanning the broader obesity portfolio. The role requires a strong sense of urgency, comfort operating in ambiguity and white space, the ability to translate emerging science and market signals into investment cases, and a regular cadence of engagement with senior leadership. The Director may manage consultants, growth gigs, etc. in support of these objectives.

ROLE RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Own end-to-end commercial assessments for a portfolio of early- and mid-stage assets across the chronic weight management treatment landscape, spanning multiple mechanisms and stages of development.
  • Build product concepts and Target Product Profiles for covered programs; develop and maintain disease-area strategies that position each asset within the evolving treatment landscape.
  • Shape early development strategy in partnership with clinical and research colleagues, ensuring commercial considerations inform candidate and program design.
  • Interpret business unit and obesity franchise strategy to establish priorities and longer-term direction for covered programs.
  • Direct the integration of forecasting, pricing, HCP demand, future landscaping, and patient-flow modeling into actionable commercial plans, partnering with insights, analytics, finance, and medical colleagues.
  • Support development of core global asset deliverables, ensuring alignment with clinical profile, customer insights, and competitive positioning.
  • Anticipate external market, competitive, and policy developments affecting the obesity landscape, and adapt asset strategies accordingly.
  • Evaluate and prioritize lifecycle management and expansion opportunities for emerging assets, including new indications, populations, and access pathways; develop business cases and scenario analyses that inform expansion investment decisions.
  • Support business development evaluations and due diligence as needed.
  • Lead select strategic initiatives spanning the broader obesity portfolio, including exploratory strategic areas and emerging access models.
  • Advance assets through enterprise governance milestones, owning preparation and delivery of asset-level governance materials.
  • Present asset-level and above-asset strategy and investment cases to senior leadership; influence decisions on portfolio direction, prioritization, and resourcing.
  • Mobilize cross-functional resources beyond direct authority; may manage consultants and agency partners.
  • Champion innovation and appropriate risk-taking in approaching novel commercial questions; share knowledge, insights, and best practices across the commercial development organization.
