As the Director, Model Monitoring & Data, Retail and Small Business Models & Analytics, you will provide strategic direction, leadership and oversight of data-related model enablement activities supporting the Bank's Retail and Small Business credit risk decisioning and regulatory capital models. Under your guidance, your team of data, reporting, and analytical professionals will support model monitoring and data initiatives for all Retail and Small Business risk models, ensuring timely investigation, reporting, documentation and monitoring of model performance to ensure models continue to execute and perform as expected. You will be responsible for setting priorities, leading by example, coaching, mentoring and ultimately, delivering results.

Is this role right for you? In this role, you will:

  • Oversee the design, development and maintenance of data infrastructure supporting model reporting and insights. Enhance data quality and transparency by identifying, collecting, and standardizing source information systems across the department in compliance with governing regulations, internal policies and procedures, ensuring a robust data management and tooling framework supporting model monitoring, insights to assist model lifecycle activities, and other ad hoc analytics.
  • Lead the design, development, execution and maintenance of monthly/quarterly/annual model execution and performance reports and dashboards, ensuring reports are supported by detailed documentation and delivered in a timely manner.
  • Actively engage with Risk, Business and Technology stakeholders to understand changes to data or models that may impact model enablement activities. Proactively identify potential areas of data quality concerns or performance deterioration, support deeper dive investigations, and provide actionable insights to support Model Developers and Owners in remediation actions.
  • Collaborate with Model Developers, Data Strategy & Risk Technology, and Technology teams to provide guidance and expertise on data, information infrastructure, and capabilities requirements necessary to assist model development activities, model life cycle data marts, self-serve analytics and reporting in a timely and efficient manner, and that these requirements continue to meet the evolving needs of the department.
  • Identify, promote and lead process improvements including streamlining, automating, and standardizing processes. Lead and explore opportunities to leverage AI and automation for greater quality control, insights and efficiencies.
  • Support data, platform, and tools initiatives within Retail and Small Business Models & Analytics in collaboration with Model Development teams in support of internal and/or broader Bank (e.g., Enterprise, GRM) initiatives.
  • Interact closely with cross-functional working groups from both business and technical sides to ensure understanding of business requirements, propose solutions, gain approvals and obtain buy-ins to ensure the above gets executed.Build a high-performance environment and implement a people strategy that attracts, retains, develops and motivates their team by fostering an inclusive work environment and using a coaching mindset and behaviours; communicating vison/values/business strategy; and, managing succession and development planning for the team.


Do you have the skills that will enable you to succeed in this role? - We'd love to work with you if you have:

  • Bachelor's Degree in STEM discipline (Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics), Business Administration or a related field
  • A demonstrated history of strategic planning, technical and data leadership, analytic problem solving and sound judgment delivering both "quick wins" and "enduring quality"
  • Fundamental understanding of mathematical models, forecasting and statistics
  • Knowledge of Retail and Small Business origination, portfolio management, and collection models, policies, processes, and systems
  • Knowledge of data management and risk decision systems in addition to background in Retail Risk Management concepts and needs
  • Experience with data quality management, Big Data ecosystem tools, and implementing visualization tools (e.g., PowerBI, Tableau)
  • Experience with JIRA/Xray or other test management/workflow tools
  • Excellent interpersonal, relationship building and communication skills (written and verbal). Comfortable initiating conversation, actively listening and collaborating with diverse personalities
  • Established leadership skills with ability to lead large teams and deliver on large-scale projects
  • Excellent analytical problem solving, time management, planning and organizing skills to manage multiple priorities and deliver quickly under pressure as work is normally conducted under tight deadlines and with conflicting/multiple priorities.
