Full Job Description
Pinterest is hiring a Director, Marketing Technology & Innovation, the most senior technology leader within our Marketing, Creative and Communications organization. To start, you will lead a hybrid team of Technical Program Managers (TPMs), AI Solutions Engineers, and third party platform engineering partners. This role starts as a player-coach. You will be hands-on alongside your teams, finding resourceful solutions as the function takes shape, with the autonomy to make a few strategic hires as it grows. The right person is a genuine leader and developer of people who has not lost touch with the technology itself, still knows how to build and close enough to the stack to make smart decisions and earn the trust of both marketers and engineers. What you'll do: Lead AI Solutions & Platform and Tools • Own the AI roadmap and intake process for Marketing, Creative and Communications; drive production-grade AI solution development across org-wide infrastructure, team-level products, and individual workflows, with every initiative shipping with a full adoption plan • Lead the Platform & Tools team, which owns and evolves the marketing sites platform and the full Marketing, Creative and Communications tools ecosystem; the team has established intake, governance, vendor operations, and cross-functional processes across Engineering, Legal, IT, and Security, and your role is to lead them forward • Set the operating model, culture, and prioritization framework across your teams, managing full-time technical talent alongside offshore agency engineering partnerships. Own & Evolve the MarTech Stack • Own the end-to-end strategy, technical selection, and system integration of a broad marketing tech ecosystem (CRM, MAP, CDP, DAM, social management, and campaign tooling). Focus on system connectivity, API orchestration, and platform uptime, activating data pipelines managed by Data Science teams. • Oversee event-tracking and media enablement infrastructure (including server-side tagging/GTM, CAPI, and conversion pixels), navigating shared codebases with Product, Security, and Engineering. • Continuously assess and evolve the stack to ensure it reflects the future of marketing technology: integrated, scalable, and built to support the organization as it grows • Manage the full vendor lifecycle: contract negotiations, renewals, license optimization, and performance management, with a clear view of total cost of ownership across the ecosystem • Own the marketing technology budget and investment strategy, applying a disciplined build vs. buy vs. expand framework to every decision; know when to invest in something new, when to consolidate, and when to get more out of what already exists • Partner with Legal and Security on data privacy, compliance, and tool governance to ensure the stack meets regulatory requirements across all markets Embed AI Across the Marketing Stack • Implement AI natively within the MarTech stack, not as standalone tools, but woven into CRM workflows, lifecycle automation, campaign optimization, and audience segmentation so AI accelerates every layer of the stack • Tackle and execute projects such as building agentic AI workforces that automate project management functions: intelligent intake routing, automated brief generation, workflow orchestration, cross-functional task coordination, and real-time status tracking, replacing manual overhead with systems that run themselves • Build production-grade AI solutions across the marketing organization; every solution ships with an owner, launch date, and adoption plan, partnering with the Director of Strategic Enablement to ensure full adoption and people development across the tech stack; maintain a centralized AI asset repository to prevent duplicated spend Operate as an Executive Thought Leader • Influence across the Marketing, Creative and Communications leadership team, Engineering, Finance, Legal, and IT; represent Pinterest's MarTech vision externally with vendors, agency partners, and technology platforms • Serve as the connective tissue between the organization's marketing ambitions and Pinterest's broader technical infrastructure, translating business goals into architecture decisions and vice versa What we're looking for: Hands-on marketing experience and hands-on AI implementation experience are both required for this role, not differentiators. • Seniority and scope: minimum of 10 years of technical leadership experience (with Director-level scope) building, configuring, and integrating enterprise MarTech systems (CRM, MAP, CDP, DAM) in environments where you defined the stack. • Education and experience: Bachelor's degree in a relevant field such as Computer Science, Software Engineering, Information Technology, or Computer Engineering, or equivalent experience. • Technical & Platform Command: Solid background in API integrations, web platform architecture, server-side tracking, CMS ecosystems, and modern delivery practices (CI/CD, agile execution). • Hands-on marketing expertise: worked directly in or alongside marketing organizations; a genuine partner to marketers across brand, performance, lifecycle, and communications, not a technology vendor to them • Hands-on AI implementation: integrated AI and LLMs (OpenAI, Gemini, Anthropic) directly into marketing stacks, including CRM automation, lifecycle triggers, predictive segmentation, and campaign optimization; AI tooling alongside the stack does not qualify • Agentic AI systems: designed and deployed multi-agent AI workforces that automate operational processes: intake routing, brief generation, workflow orchestration, and cross-functional coordination • Data Science Partnership: Strong experience collaborating with Data Science/Engineering teams, understanding how to integrate and activate their data models within marketing execution platforms. • Player-coach: coaches and develops people, still builds when needed, and embeds a culture of learning across the organization, not just for individuals • Industry thought leadership: brings a recognized external perspective on MarTech and AI; contributes to how the industry thinks, stays ahead of trends, and applies that lens internally • Technical command: strong grasp of web platform architecture, API integrations, CMS ecosystems, and modern delivery practices (CI/CD, agile, sprint-based execution) • Full-stack MarTech fluency: CRM, CDP, MAP, DAM, social management, and the integration layer • Executive communication: distills technical complexity for a non-technical C-suite, runs rigorous vendor evaluations, and earns the confidence of both engineers and marketers Relocation Statement: • This position is not eligible for relocation assistance. Visit our PinFlex page to learn more about our working model. In-Office Requirement Statement: • We let the type of work you do guide the collaboration style. That means we're not always working in an office, but we continue to gather for key moments of collaboration and connection. • This role will need to be in the office for in-person collaboration 1-2 times/quarter and therefore can be situated anywhere in the country. #LI-REMOTE #LI-ARMM78 At Pinterest we believe the workplace should be equitable, inclusive, and inspiring for every employee.
